For some reason, I seem to have set myself up with a little tradition each December. Aside from the Christmas tree decorating, the present wrapping and the trips to the Christmas markets, I like to buy certain brands Holiday gift sets. I’ve always said that it’s not Christmas without Soap & Glory, a bit similar to how it wouldn’t be Christmas without seeing the Coca Cola truck. It’s now not Christmas without getting newness from the whimsical Too Faced and the ever so sophisticated Marc Beauty by Marc Jacobs. Having only been on the shelves since 2013, Marc Beauty was previously only available in Sephora in the USA, but has since found its way to UK shores to be sold in Harrods and John Lewis. Last Christmas, the Marc Beauty Sofia Lip Set found its way into my possession, but this year has brought one of the most luxurious palettes that I have ever seen; the Object of Desire palette.
I’ve been purchasing all of my Marc Beauty products from America, so when I heard it was coming to the UK, I was delighted. With the rubbish exchange range, that thankfully now seems to be moving up, I was hoping that the price point would be equal to or even better than what it has been with the rate. Luckily for my shopping needs, it works out to be slightly cheaper than the USA if you were to add sales tax on. Hurrah for the UK, hey! Anyway, I am digressing. Lets get back to the object of my desire. Glamorous, gold and dressed up to match the brand new Marc Jacobs Decadence Eau de Parfum, the vegan friendly leather case contains all you need to dress your face for a night out.
Inside the opulent golden clutch with black silk tassle, three face powders sit next to six eye colours. A large mirror in the lid helps with application and I’ve found that keeping the protective cover over the shades leaves enough room to keep a handful of travel sized brushes in the palette.
In the three face powders, you’ll find O!Mega Bronzer in Tantric. This is one of the best bronzers that I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. Finely milled, soft and not at all red toned, it’s one of the only bronzers that I have repurchased over the years that suits my medium skin tone without looking muddy. Exhibitionist blusher, a warm medium toned pink with a matte finish. This applies with some intensity so a light hand is better when applying. I can’t find the blusher as a stand alone product so I believe it has been created for the palette. The highlighter shade, Make A Sheen, is a warm gold with frosted shimmer. I was surprised at how chunky the glitter felt within this powder and it does make it difficult to give an even finish. I’ve found that a fan brush is best to apply.
I haven’t tried any of the eye shadows from Marc Beauty before so I was really looking forward to using these. From first impressions the colours were very pigmented, with good colour payoff from pan to brush to lid. The powders feel very finely milled with a powdery texture.
Lights On – light yellow gold with pearlescent finish
Candlelight – light copper with warm orange undertones and a shimmer finish
Dimmer – medium toned cocoa brown with yellow undertones
Violet Hour – matte muted violet
Twilight – dark plum with satin finish
In the Dark – deep black brown with gold sparkle
I’m totally crushing on my new palette and now it feels a little bit more like Christmas.
