Nothing says Christmas more than a new limited edition Too Faced set and this year is no different. I’ve not had the opportunity to pick up the Sephora exclusive, however there is still time. Last year was centred around the Grand Palais and the Sephora exclusive was an incredible set and great value for money. The year before was the whimsical La Belle Carousel, probably one of the most beautiful sets I’ve seen. Christmas in New York is the theme of Too Faced’s Christmas collection for 2016 and the three sets that are available are The Christmas Shop (exclusive to Sephora), Merry Macaroons and the Grand Hotel Café. I would have all three if I could, but that would be a little silly, wouldn’t it?
As you would expect, the Too Faced Grande Hotel Café is as festive and whimsical as it’s predecessors. In hues of pink and pastel green, it’s a girls wonderland. There’s something about the femininity of Too Faced. The combination of sweet treats and kitsch girliness makes me need everything that they create. It’s becoming an obsession, and one that I don’t want to cure myself from. The Too Faced Grande Hotel Café is designed to look like a café with the box containing a removable roof that opens up to the chic coffee shop. Nestled inside are three individual themed palette, all with a Christmas theme as well as a deluxe size of the iconic Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I recently reviewed the Better Than Sex waterproof mascara and I did mention how I was going to give the original another chance to see how I get on with it.
I couldn’t possibly choose a favourite palette with the three that are in the Too Faced Grande Hotel Café, but I have fallen in love with several shades across them. Funnily enough they happen to be the heavily glittered metallic shades, but as it’s Christmas, I will be getting so much use out of them. Each palette with the set has a gift tag on the reverse, so they can be split up for presents if you so wish, although it’s far too nice to be separated. Each palette contains six eyeshadow shades, as well as a large sized blusher or bronzer shade, all with Christmassy names. What I love the most is that each palette has been scented to the name. Just like the Chocolate palettes which smell of chocolate, there are some intriguing new shade scents within the Café. Gingerbread Cookie smells of gingerbread, Eggnog Latte is eggnog scented and Peppermint Mocha is peppermint scented. Kitsch and girly, and perfect for the holidays. The scents are subtle and seem to be only scented whilst in the palette as I can’t seem to to smell it when the shadows are transferred onto the brush or my skin.
Gingerbread Cookie Palette contains six eyeshadows in a golden brown mix, with a bronzer. Being a warm toned palette, I was drawn to Gingerbread Cookie immediately.
Ginger Cream – light warm beige with warm undertones and a matte finish
Maple Syrup – medium dark taupe brown with warm undertones and a matte finish
Gingersnap – medium copper with warm red undertones and a copper sparkle finish
Winter Dream – medium rose mauve with warm undertones and a pink and white sparkle finish
Cup of Joe – dark brown with golden pearl ran through a matte finish
Black Coffee – cool toned dark black brown with matte finish
Gingerbread Bronzer – medium dark brown with red undertones and a matte finish
Peppermint Mocha contains six eyeshadows in a deep pink/purple blend with a pink bronzer. Slightly cool toned, the metallic shades stood out to me the most.
Peppermint Cream – Bright white with a matte finish
Christmas Blend – medium peachy brown with a gold sparkle finish
Peppermint Mocha – dark brown with reddish undertones and a matte finish with light sparkle
Candy Cane – cool toned light pink with a matte finish
Sprinkles – medium dark berry purple with frosted purple finish
Coffee Chip – black brown with white pearl shimmer
Santa Baby Blusher – medium pink blusher with matte finish
Eggnog Latte palette contains six shadows in a selection of more festive shades of silver and green with a coral blusher.
Frosty Nog – Light beige with a matte finish
Eggnog Latte – medium yellow gold with a sparkle finish
Iced Coffee – copper brown with a pearlescent finish
Skinny Latte – medium yellow brown with a matte finish
Cold Brew – medium brown with red undertones and silver sparkle
Central Perk – emerald green with frosted finish
Peach Cobbler – medium peach coral with satin finish
As you can see, the colours and packaging are just simply beautiful but what I will say is that they definitely need a primer to enhance the longevity of the shades. The metallic shades also work beautifully when used wet for a deep, more intense look. I am so looking forward to wearing Gingersnap for the next few weeks. It’s made for me. Debenhams and Selfridges are the only two stockists of Too Faced in the UK and they are both showing as out of stock for the Too Faced Grande Hotel Café, however there is still stock available on Sephora which do ship to the UK. It may be a perfect time to stock up on some much wanted items whilst you get this. Also take a look at The Chocolate Shop as it’s so pretty.
