In the final part of my holiday makeup bag posts, I’m bringing to you the tools and lashes that I took with me. It’s no easy feat having a condensed makeup bag but overall, I think I did quite well in my quest to reduce space and not take everything but the kitchen sink. It’s been quite eye opening to see just how little I can take and still be able to create a number of looks with just one eyeshadow palette and a few different coloured lipsticks. Although I’m not featuring every single brush I took, I have found the perfect travel companion in a brush set from Sigma, and the lashes which have helped changed my eyes from day time chic to night time glam. There’s also a brilliantly photo bombed picture featuring the lovely Thomas who makes this whole post.
Starting with the lashes, it was really difficult to narrow it down to just three pairs. I wear lashes all the time and I am quite set in my ways when it comes to which brands I use and which styles. I have often spoken on social media of my love of Nouveau Lashes and the Volume 2 and Natural 2 pairs are my absolute favourites. They are long enough to create an impact, yet they look so natural on. I took Natural 2 with me, and wore these every day bar one. With Nouveau Lashes, the quality is exceptional and I find that I can get a lot of wear out of just one pair of lashes. In this case, I got several days and they were still in great condition when I got home that I have used them until they were ready for the bin. Prior to my holiday, I did have my lashes done with a concept similar to LVL Lashes, just so I felt comfortable wearing no lashes, however I still found I needed that extra oomph. I’m such a lash gal, I can’t help it. Nouveau Lashes Natural 2 add thickness and dimension to my lashes, and at just £4.96 for a pair, they’re exceptional for the price. The lash glue with comes with it is latex free and vegan friendly and they stay in place all day.
I have found the best site for purchasing lashes at False Eyelashes. I first spotted them on Instagram on their We Love Lashes account and I was amazed that I had found a place to buy House of Lashes without having to get them shipped from America. I had been desperate to try the House of Lashes Iconic lashes for quite sometime, and I’m really pleased I did. The most beautiful lashes for evening, the criss cross V shaped lashes really give that elegant yet showstopping look. Another brand that are 100% cruelty free, they look like mink lashes and really create an impact. They’re really comfortable to wear and I didn’t find that they felt heavy on my eyes like other big lashes do. I think they’re my new favourite style and I’m keeping them in perfect condition to last as long as they can. They are £14 a pair, but I’ve got many wears from them so far and there are no signs of them giving up just yet.
I also picked up a pair of the Eylure Vegas Nay Shining Star Lashes at £6.90. I love Eylure lashes and again, they last for a really long time. I don’t know why they have changed the band on the Vegas Nay lashes but they were really difficult to apply as the band was quite thick and didn’t have much movement. Although my lashes had been curled with the LVL treatment beforehand, I didn’t have trouble putting the other lashes on, yet I struggled a lot to get these in position. I also had to trim a considerable amount off, which is unusual for me as I have large almond shaped eyes. I don’t think I would repurchase any of the Vegas Nay lashes again, simply for the difficulty with the lash band, however the lashes themselves looked really fluffy and full and very realistic.
I have a handful of makeup brushes that I use without failure. I apply my foundation with an Iconic Oval Brush, my concealer with the Real Techniques Setting Brush, and my eye makeup with the MAC 239, 217 and 224 brushes. In addition to these, I have been using Sigma Brushes so the Sigma Mr Bunny Travel Set came in ever so handy. The travel brush tube is absolutely brilliant for travelling as all my brushes stayed safe inside without getting damaged, and although the brushes within the kit have travel sized handles, my other brushes fit comfortable inside, with exception of my Iconic Oval as it’s quite large. The kit contains seven of Sigma’s best selling brushes and I could have just taken those with me as there was a brush for each step of makeup.
For the face, the F30 Large Powder Brush, the F40 Large Angled Contour and the F60 Foundation Brush and for the eyes, the E30 Pencil Brush, E40 Tapered Blending, E55 Eye Shading and the E65 Small Angled Brush. I have the E30 and E40 brushes with the standard sized handles and I use them all of the time. The E40 is very similar to the MAC 224 brush but I find it to be slightly better at blending as the fibres used in the brush are so fine. What I love about Sigma brushes is the ability for them to not absorb the product, whether it be powder, liquid or cream. They also wash beautifully and I’ve never had any shedding from any of my brushes at all.
I think I’ve done so well in condensing the amount of things I took with me. It’s a shame I can’t do this in real life. Today I’m going to be sitting down to wash around 100 makeup brushes as I’ve literally used every single brush in my collection. The thought of nice clean brushes is so nice, but the thought of washing them all is not so good. Thankfully, I have my Sigma Brush Spa and Sigma Brushampoo to make light work of things.
I just wanted to show you my new personalised makeup bag from Rock on Ruby as well. With my name being so unusual, I can never get personalised items so I treasure them greatly. The Life’s A Beach Make Up bag is a set design from Rock on Ruby but because they are amazing, you can have any item personalised with your name, or even go the whole hog and get a custom designed piece of apparel in whatever takes your fancy. I’ve got a fab sweatshirt that I can’t wait to show you and I’m about to order my t.shirt ready for Gay Pride, which I’m am so excited about!
