The Holiday Makeup Bag Part One
Holiday makeup. One of the most difficult decision a makeup addict has to undertake. Back ion February I went on holiday to Las Vegas, with a 22kg baggage allowance and a need for fabulous outfits and lots of lipstick. Not knowing just how cold it would be or realising that I cannot work with pre-planned outfits, I of course over packed and took way too much with me. When I shared a photo on Instagram of my holiday makeup bag, the amount of people who were interested in just how I condensed it down shocked me so much that I have pulled the entire contents of my holiday makeup bag back together. I think I did a pretty fine job as I didn’t need or wish for anything whilst I was there, and although I was in the USA and could easily pick up things I needed, I did really well to not spend unnecessarily. I’m going to split it over three posts, this part being the makeup bag contents, with the second being the lip products and the third being lashes and tools.
Whittling products down to just one of each really makes you think about what you want from a product and I also utilised this opportunity to use products that were new or that I hadn’t used very often. Starting with the base, I chose the Hylamide HA Blur Primer, for it’s ability to smooth out my skin and create a clear complexion even if my skin is looking a bit done in. With the difference in altitude and atmosphere of Las Vegas, the HA Blur primner actually worked out to be the best decision when packing as it really helped keep my makeup in place and gave me some moisture without pooling into oily patches. With the same thought in mind, I wanted a sheerer coverage foundation that still gave a flawless finish but felt like my skin could breath. Using a foundation that is actually a repurchase for me, the Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation in Honey is one of those foundations that doesn’t get enough recognition. It can be built to gain a medium coverage but it gives such a beautifully luminous finish, that skin looks so healthy and glowy. I love it.
When it came to powders, I could have made up a custom palette to save space using some of my other products however I was desperate to try out the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Finishing Pressed Powders in 01 Translucent and 02 Banana. Using the translucent powder to set my foundation, it worked really well in combination with the blurring primer as well as keeping my skin looking glowy and non cakey. The tiniest amount worked well to set, and I kept it in my bag for daytime top ups. 02 Banana is my new favourite powder. It is the best thing for setting under eye concealer, which I took my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard. It didn’t look too yellow on my skin, didn’t settle into fine lines and literally held my face in place all day.
A dusting of bronzer came from the Pur Glow Together Jumbo Bronzer palette. Three matte shades and three shimmer shades look beautifully natural when used individually or swirled together for a custom colour. The compact is huge with a decent sized mirror as well as having a really light and finely milled formulation of mineral based makeup. It’s probably one of my favourite bronzers this year as I love the colour on my skin. I only took one highlighter away with me as well, which I was so shocked at. The highlighter of choice was the Laura Geller Beauty Baked Gelato Swirl Highlighter in Ballerina. I love this hybrid of powder that feels like a cream on the skin. Long lasting, sheer and radiant, I think I need to get Gilded Honey next.
The eyeshadow palette selection was the easiest choice for me. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance is still my everything and as you can see, it’s becoming very well loved. Thankfully, ABH now sells all my favourite shades in singles so rather than replace the full palette again, I will be getting the singles of Realgar and Burnt Orange as they are simply beautiful.
For brows, I took the new Sleek Brow Intensity which is a dual ended highlighter shade with a comb/sponge tip end. Now, i’m not going to lie, it’s a tough product to get to grips with and I have been very frustrated with getting my brows perfect with it. The idea of pushing the product into the brow whilst brushing it through is quite simple but it just doesn’t work for me. Good job I took my trusty Shavata Brow Pencil and setting gel. The highlighter shade however is the perfect shape for defining the brow arch. For the eye base, the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Enigma has been a trusty friend for many years and it’s perfect for travelling due to its plastic packaging that doesn’t leak under pressure. For lashes, I gave the Rimmel ScandalEyes Mascara in Black a whirl, as I hadn’t tried it before. It’s good, but the big brush applicator caused me some difficulty in keeping it on my lashes and I ended up with it all over my lid instead. It did enhance lashes and give them the big, black, voluminous lash that I crave.
Phew, that’s a lot of makeup considering I’m condensing everything into three posts. Make sure you head back and check on my beauty tools and lashes that I have been loving lately. Have you tried anything in my make up bag, and is there anything on your wish list?

You did really, really well to bring a small edit of makeup – it kills me having to narrow it down!! I don’t think I’ve ever read a review of that foundation before and it sounds like one I would enjoy using! xx
