With Christmas and New Year out of the way, it’s time to look ahead for 2020, and for many of us, that means something new and something fresh. Where better to start than at home, the place where you spend most of your time, where you wake up and go to sleep each night. If you don’t want or can’t afford a whole renovation, there are some little touches you can make which can make a huge difference to your home. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Paint!

You could give your walls a fresh coat of the same paint, a new color, or if you’re feeling a little adventurous, you could get creative with bold, angular shapes somewhere unexpected, like the corner of the room, even take it onto the ceiling. Go wild and try a bright color if you dare – you can always paint over it again.

Create More Space

You might be wondering how you can do that when you have a tiny home, but you can create the illusion of more space by painting the walls white, making the most of natural light, making more open plan areas, and getting clever with your storage. Get furniture that doubles up as storage, like a hollow bench for your towels or in the kids’ room, get bunk beds or cabin beds to make the most of the space you have. Simple things like changing to bi-fold doors can add the illusion of space to the downstairs of your house and can feel like you’ve added an extension to your home.

Create A Fab Workspace

If you sometimes work from home, then it’s nice to have a space dedicated to just that, somewhere you can be productive and creative or even somewhere where you can just concentrate on working out your bills. A home office can be the perfect place to focus, but you don’t even have to have a whole room to make yourself a home office: all you need is a spare corner of the living room, a nook in the guest bedroom, or perhaps an underused alcove in the hallway. If you do have the space, then putting your desk next to a window will be good so that you can enjoy the benefits of natural light and will have more energy, but if you can’t do this, just work with what you have. Why not consider different options for your supplies by shopping around.

Update Your Bedroom

Your bedroom, your sanctuary. Make it somewhere where you can get up to face the day… and collapse into bed at the end of it! Blue and white are a great color combo. Make sure you give yourself enough privacy in your room and pay attention to the windows. You could treat yourself to an anti-cold curtain that will keep the room warm during the winter and also give you full privacy and block the daylight completely, which is great when you need a lie-in.

Choose some new bedding, the softer, the better. Try silky sheets, a nice throw and then finish off with some beautiful cushions; a mixture of patterned styles with neutral ones is a good option to go for.

Lighting is also important in your room, try switching to a dimmer switch – it’s a small thing, but it can make a huge difference.
