Oh, look! Another palette. Yes, I am obsessed with them and I’m ok with that. It’s Christmas so of course the palette of the season is the Too Faced Cinnamon Swirl palette. I have to get these each year, and it’s now become somewhat of a tradition. Last years Pumpkin Spice palette has been used a lot over 2021, then there was the Gingerbread Extra Spicy which for some reason I haven’t reviewed and the original festive offering the Too Faced Gingerbread palette. What do you think will be next years? I’m going for Too Faced Maple Pecan Danish – we can revisit that next Christmas and see if I was right.

Too Faced Cinnamon Swirl Palette – The Packaging

As with absolutely everything that Too Faced have released, the packaging is adorable. In the signature tin palette that we all know so well, the lid is adorned with embossed cinnamon buns which I think are super cute. The palette opens up to show the full sized mirror, this time with a cinnamon bun in the corner. The palette contains 18 shadows, all of the same size and the combined weight of 12.6g. It retails at £40 which I still think is an absolute bargain for 18 shadows.

Too Faced Cinnamon Swirl Palette – The Eyeshadows

The shades are definitely cinnamon inspired with the first two rows being very warm and neutral, and the third row a mix of pinks and purpled hues. Eight matte shades, six metallics and four satin shimmers bring the palette together for a very wearable, everyday use palette that can be glammed up for a more festive look. This years scented shadows are definitely of cinnamon and it’s very warming and sweet although the scent does dissipate once the shadows are applied.

It has to be said that if you do have previous palettes, then you really don’t need this one unless you do collect them. The shades are more on the subtler side, and if you know my style of eye makeup I like something with a little more oomph and tend to steer clear of brown smoky eyes. There’s not a huge amount of variation with the colours in the palette. But, if you do like a brown smoky eye then this is such a great palette for helping you achieve those looks. From paler champagne shades to deeper, richer teddy bear browns, I would recommend this more for a novice in eyeshadow application.

In terms of formulation, I did find some inconsistency between the shadows. Some applied like butter, yet some were on the chalkier end. It’s not a major issue if they are slightly chalky but it can have a little effect on a seamless blend. The shimmers and sparkle shades, as expected, were beautiful and applied really well albeit with some fall out. I do love using the shimmer shades with my finger and pressing them into the eye but they also work well when using a brush.

Too Faced Cinnamon Swirl Palette – Thoughts?

I’m in two minds on the Too Faced Cinnamon Swirl palette. One side of me loves it for its whimsical and kitsch packaging, cute scent and that it’s part of a set so I had to have it. The other side of me is thinking that the shades are just a little bit bland and don’t have that pizazz that the previous years have. The purple shade Food Court is very pleasing to see as it has been in an old favourite Too Faced palette of mine, Peanut Butter and Jelly.

When I look at the swatches, I think it does have a really good pigmentation and the shadows do last. Aside from those that are a little chalkier, they are forgiven for being surrounded by such lovely buttery shades. It’s definitely a me palette; warm neutrals are the one for me. I think if the palette had less lighter shades I would be more drawn to it than I am. I just feel that they get wasted because they don’t show up on me and I feel that are definitely more lighter shades than deeper ones.
