Benefit Hoola Contourist Palette
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve had something new from Benefit but this little baby caught my eye when I was splurging and needed a treat. I used to absolutely love Benefit but I must admit that there’s barely been any new releases lately that have made me want to part with my cash. From their mascaras, to Box O’Powders and iconic brow products, I used to rely on Benefit to kit me out in my essential makeup products so when I saw the two new launches this summer, my interest was peaked. Not only have Benefit released the Hoola Contourist palette but a new Hoola has joined the family too; the Hoola Glow. I can imagine that these will be really successful for the brand with Hoola being such a cult classic.

I have my Hoola in my stash. It’s years old, and it’s personalised and for me, it’s a little keepsake but I did find that the medium toned powder just wasn’t giving me enough bronze but just a lick of warmth. To see that Benefit have expanded on their shades to include all skintones has been a greatly welcomed shade extension and Benefit Hoola Contourist Palette is bringing it all in one place. Featuring all four of the matte bronze shades; Hoola Light, Hoola, Hoola Caramel and Hoola Toasted all set in a handy compact that comes with a mirror for on the go application, I’ve been very pleased to try them all out.
This set is a little bargain. It’s £28.50 for all four shades and you may even find that my 20% discount works on Look Fantastic. There’s 8g of product across all four shades which is the equivalent to the 8g Box O’Powder. It’s a great way to use all shades, not only to bronze but to contour with too.
I was shocked at just how light Hoola was. I don’t recall it to be that light so you can imagine how funny I found it when the Hoola Light looked like a translucent powder on my skintone. It’s just a pale creamy shade with zero bronze in it for me. It will be used more as a setting powder. Hoola Caramel is definitely the best shade match for me; creamy and warm, it looks great. I do also really like the Hoola Toasted but I will need to be more tanned to be able to wear this on a more day to day basis.

As with all Benefit powders, each powder in the Hoola Contourist palette is the same great quality that you would expect from Benefit. They pick up well with a big fluffy brush, and diffuse out well on the skin. There is some kickback from the powders but nothing major and as the full set of bronze shades sit with both cool and warm undertones, they are perfect for contouring as well as bronzing.
Using a big fluffy brush for the bronzer shades, I apply the powder liberally across my face paying attention to where the sun would hit. For contouring, the deeper shades are used under my cheekbones, temples and round my hairline and jawline and down the sides of my nose. For a deeper contour use the powders over the top of cream product, setting with powder and top with a sparkly highlight. Perfect.
Have you tried the Benefit Hoola Contourist Palette? What did you think about it? It’s going to be perfect for my desk to disco makeup back for when I am eventually back in the office! I think I may also need to pick up the Hoola Glow – just to complete the collection of course!
