Lipstick. Such a funny thing to be addicted to but I can’t help it. I love how it can transform your look, reflect your mood and take you from plain Jane to Beauty Queen in a quick swipe of colour. Whether it be a drugstore lipstick or a £39 Tom Ford shade, there’s something pretty magical about how a slick of colour can make you feel so good. It’s rather funny as when I’m at home and on days off, I err more towards a nude lip, with a hint of colour yet, I can’t go to work with wearing a vibrant, stand out shade as I don’t feel like myself. In fact, when people from work see me with a nude lip, they always seem to think that something is wrong or that I’m ill. I’ve recently acquired a handful or two of new lipsticks including these heavenly By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipsticks, and for my first try of By Terry, I’m rather impressed.
By Terry is the brainchild of Terry De Gunzburg, the veteran of luxury beauty having been the creative director behind YSL Beauté and creator of the iconic Touché Eclat. Luxury certainly rings true with By Terry, with the price points for some items surpassing those from Tom Ford. A brand that I consider to be a smidge out of my price bracket, I haven’t tried any of the range including cult favourites Baumé de Rose and the Ombré Blackstar shadow sticks. Getting chance to try out the By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipstick has been a little slice of heaven and these whisper light, sheer and plumping balm lipstick hybrids are perfection.
Being a fan of the opaque, matte lipstick is leading my lips into a state of disrepair and a good slough is needed one more than one day per week. I’ve been trying to tell myself that a lighter, sheerer lipstick will suffice and the By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipsticks have come in at the right time. Sheer they are, and I wouldn’t personally go as far to say they were a lipstick, but more of a tinted lip balm. They offer a moderate hydration which I can still feel present after the colour has worn off my lips. Longevity is what you would expect from this type of product, so the colour boost does need topping up quite frequently. With a lipstick that retails at £27, it’s quite an outlay when you have to use so much product, but what I will say is that the hyaluronic acid infused formula does live up to my expections, as my lips do look fuller and filled in, and actually quite smooth. I have such dry lips, regardless of how many products I use and as most lipsticks tend to cling to dry patches, the By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipstick seems to sit quite well and not form dry patches in the centre of my lower lip. The creamy formulation leaves a lovely glossy shine, and they also look great over the top of a lip liner for a deeper finish.
The packaging is exactly what you would expect from a high end luxury brand. Sleek, sophisticated and slender, it’s a lipstick that would feel at home in my make up bag surrounded by Chanel and YSL. I have three shades; 16 Rose Boom Boom, 17 Zest Shot and 18 Pink Up! Rose Boom Boom is very much a me colour in a glossy fuchsia pink, with Zest Shot being a fun and flirty orange whilst Pink Up! is a sheer muted pink.
I’ve actually found the By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipsticks to be really beneficial to my lips, and I’ve been using them a lot more than I thought I would. It’s nice to wear a sheer lip sometimes, and the vibrant burst of colour with it’s moisturising properties and glossy finish has been a great update to my lip wardrobe.
