Moving house is a huge decision as you’re basically packing up your life and starting afresh somewhere else. It’s pretty stressful as well, but it could be an excellent decision in some circumstances. I’m sure many of you are pondering whether or not a move is right for you. So, I want to shine some light on this situation by revealing a few signs that moving house could be an excellent decision…

You’ve been given a new career opportunity

I reckon a lot of people have missed out on big opportunities because they’ve been unwilling to move house. If a career opportunity opens up in a different city or country, it’s well worth considering it. This can bring more financial stability, but it could also be the job of your dreams. If you’ve received a job offer that requires you to move, I would 100% see this as a sign you should maybe get up and go. Of course, weight up the pros and cons of the job before you jump to a decision.

You’re outgrowing your current home

When you first moved into your house or apartment, everything was fine. There was enough space for you and all of your belongings. Now, it feels very cramped. You can barely fit all of your stuff in your home, and you may even have a new person sharing the place with you. Perhaps you have a child, or you’ve got a long-term partner? Either way, it’s probably time to call up some removalists and move your possessions to a more spacious abode. This is probably the most common sign and reason to move house. A lot of people have a ‘starter home’ that’s small and affordable. As you get older and your need for space increases, you tend to move to a larger place. For those looking to streamline this often-stressful transition, an all-in-one platform like Homemove can connect you with vetted professionals for mortgages, conveyancing, and removals, making the entire journey smoother.

You’re struggling to pay rent

If you rent your home, you may face a scenario where it’s hard to keep up with your monthly payments. I think we’ve seen many situations like this in the last twelve months. People are made redundant, their income decreases, and they can’t afford the rent. For whatever reason, if you’re struggling to pay rent, it makes sense to move house. Move back in with your parents or find a more affordable place in a different location. Whether you’re renting for the first time, or not, looking at a how to afford to live alone guide is a great way to get a insight of all things you should consider and expect.

You no longer feel safe

The first two points were nice and cheery talking about positive situations where you need to move home. Now, we’ve moved on to some of the more negative reasons for moving. If you don’t feel safe in your home, move. Neighbourhoods change over time, so a safe place can suddenly become a dangerous one. There’s no reason to live in fear every time you walk back to your flat each night. If you don’t feel safe, move to a more comfortable area.

Can you relate to any of the points on this list? If so, it could be time to pack up and move home! Naturally, you can move house for lots of other reasons as well. You might just wake up one day and decide you need a change. That’s perfectly fine – there are no rules here! I’ve just listed a few signs/scenarios where moving makes a lot of sense.
