Urban Decay Naked Wild West Palette

I’ve done so well during 2021 in only buying beauty products that I need and not buying eyeshadow palettes just for the sake of it. I’ve also done so well in convincing myself that this is true. I have bought eyeshadow palettes, lots of them and I don’t have a single regret except that my once substantial storage is now not big enough for more. New furniture it is! When Urban Decay released the Naked Wild West palette, it was ordered straight away and mine within just a couple of days. It’s definitely my kind of palette; warm tans and terracotta’s, mixed with pops of shimmers and a turquoise blue that ticks all the boxes.
Urban Decay describes the Naked Wild West palette as being inspired by the rich, earthy tones of the California desert, with images conjured by the Joshua trees and endless blue skies. Colourful geckos in the sun kissed sand, and the turquoise waters to dip your toes in. The palette is Urban Decays first Naked palette to feature all vegan friendly shadows, which is big news and a huge step for UD.
When I first saw the palette, I wasn’t sure on the colour story. It obviously works well with the theme but it’s an unusual combination of colours and actually, it’s probably the first Naked palette that hasn’t stuck to similar tones and themes. A welcome change for sure and the palette is extremely wearable and versatile. From subtle day time looks, to heavier smoky eyed looks as well as those gorgeous wet look metallics which are a dream to work with. I probably do have all of these shades in other palettes but I never would have thought to put them together like this.
When swatching and working with the shadows, I did find that some were a lot more chalkier than Urban Decay’s usual quality. This could be due to the change in formulation but I did find some hard to swatch. I also must note that some of the swatches found online are really not a fair reflection of the palette so I have ensured that you can see the quality of each one. I had a lot of difficulty with Laredo and Whiskey and whilst Ghost Town was a pain to swatch, it applies much easier. I always use a primer under both swatches and ono my eyes and of course, it’s the UD Primer Potion which I love. Stand out shades for me have to be Bud and Cowboy Rick and they have been dancing around on my eyes constantly. Cowboy Rick is much like the Moondust shadows; sheer and sparkly and looks amazing when applied wet. I think between Cowboy Rick and Midnight Cowboy from the single Moondust Shadows, my glitter goals are complete.

It’s a no brainer to me when Urban Decay release a new Naked palette, and I will be purchasing it regardless. After all, it’s part of a collection now and I love a complete collection. In fact, the only palette I am missing is the Reloaded so I should grab that sooner rather than later.
