Pat McGrath Celestial Odyssey Palette

Welcome to the first of many palette reviews for the Christmas season. I am thinking I might need to change my name to Anoushka Loves Eyeshadow at this rate because there’s at least another 3 palettes coming up. I had to make sure that the first one was this years release from Pat McGrath; the MTHRSHP MEGA Celestial Odyssey palette. After last years palette, which I have used so many times, I signed up to the first release email and ordered it within 3 minutes of it going on sale. For delivery from the USA on a new launch, I got my palette within 10 days so kudos to PMG. I wish I could say the same about the blushers that I waited nearly 3 weeks for! It’s arrived, it’s beautiful and I’ve had a really good play with the colours to see how they perform and what looks I can do with them. You may be able to spot some on my Instagram page.

Celestial Odyssey: The Packaging

Just like last years palette, you’ll find Celestial Odyssey inside a cardboard sleeve and a palette made mainly of sturdy cardboard. It does have ribbon supports for when you open the lid so you can use the mirror without the need for propping it open. Noticeably different, the shadows are set into a plastic palette within the cardboard outer, and I’m really enjoying having a palette with such a large mirror. It makes life so much easier when taking it on the road and it’s sturdy enough to know that your shadows will remain safely intact. This years design has a regal red and gold colour story with the iconic PMG designs running through. I do love the PMG packaging.

Celestial Odyssey: The Eyeshadows

As with the Celestial Divinity palette, Celestial Odyssey contains eighteen shadows with a mix of matte, shimmer and glitter finishes. The majority of the shades are new, with the exception of Corrupt Copper, Bronze Eclipse, Lotus Luxe and Rose Venus which have previously been available in the EYEdols single shadows or in a previous palette. Bronze Eclipse features in Mothership VI: Midnight Sun palette and Lotus Luxe within the Golden Opulence palette.

When I initially opened the palette I was drawn to the green and blue shades immediately but after a closer look I was a little unsure of the colour story. The velvet matte shades are definitely my colours; warm neutral shades that can be worn alone for a subtle eye look. But, I don’t buy Pat McGrath to do subtle. Aside from the blue, green and black shades, once I’d unpacked the shade range in my head I was somewhat underwhelmed as these are shades that I have over and over again in my collection. I do definitely prefer the colour story from Celestial Divinity. Of course, you need to play with the shades to see how they perform on the eye and this is why you should never judge a palette just by it’s colour story.

There is something very special about the formulations from Pat McGrath. They are next level in quality and finish and I have nothing negative to say about any part of the palette. Every shades wears well, has minimal fallout and they blend like a dream. It’s because of the great quality that I would recommend this palette to any beginner because it’s makes light work of an eye makeup look and practically does the work for you.

Wearing Citrine Envy and Noir Moon over a black base has given me two brand new looks that I want to wear more of and I’ve found a lot of love in Electrique and Solar Flare as a daytime combo. They are very multi dimensional and even if you wear them as a more softer subtle look, they really pack a punch.

Overall, it’s a win from me and I’m really happy to have this in my collection. I’m expecting to get a lot of wear out of Celestial Odyssey over the next few weeks especially now that we are on the run up to Christmas.

You can get Pat McGrath from Selfridges however the palette is currently out of stock. You do need to allow extra time for delivery when ordering directly from PMG, but generally the price is cheaper than buying from the UK, and you do not get charged custom fees.
