Pat McGrath Celestial Divinity Palette
Once upon a time, I had a brilliant idea of counting how many eyeshadow palettes I own. I counted and immediately regretted it and subsequently put myself on an eyeshadow palette buying ban. That was mid summer, and I can hand on heart say that I’ve not stuck to my ban and have been a bit palette happy as of late. I would absolutely love to do a whole category on the blog of every palette with all the swatches but I fear it would take around 5 years. But, in the interest of giving my readers what they want, I will share as much as I can with all the swatches and as many eye looks as I can possibly do. Let’s kick things off with the Pat McGrath Celestial Divinity palette; an absolute steal in terms of Pat pricing.
It’s not been that long since I started buying Pat McGrath but I have noticed that I keep veering towards her site and Selfridges for more. I remember when the PMG line launched. I was in the USA and saw these ridiculously over the top bags filled with sequins and lip kits and I was in love. It’s a dangerous brand to fall for because it is at the higher end of the pricing scale but the quality is second to none and I can’t say I’ve not liked anything I’ve tried. I’ve not bought myself any of the eyeshadow palettes before as at £115, they are eye wateringly expensive but seeing how well they work on others, it’s going to happen one day. With this years Christmas collection, the Pat McGrath Celestial Divinity palette has ticked the boxes in terms of affordability especially with the Black Friday pricing that’s happening right now. Celestial Divinity is a great entrance level palette to the brand, and whilst it doesn’t contain any of the Blitz Astral formulations that PMG is known for, the shimmers and sparkles of Celestial Divinity are a real showstopper alone.
It did take me a while to open and use Celestial Divinity as I was a bit overwhelmed with the colours. Whilst you can certainly get some more muted day time looks from this, it’s definitely one for packing a punch and making an impact. It did sit on my desk for ages, and I kept picking it up wondering did I actually like it or was it just an impulse purchase? To be honest, it was definitely an impulse purchase especially as I saw that the intended price was to be £74, however at the VIP launch, with my discount I managed to get hold of it for £54. It’s currently available on Net A Porter for £60 however what I will say is that I’m a bit disappointed in PMG because prior to Black Friday the palette went from £60 to £74 before a Black Friday deal discount was applied. It isn’t much of a saving and I suspect that it will drop back down to the original price quite quickly. It’s a very naughty sales tactic and something that has been picked up by many beauty lovers over social media.
As with all Pat McGrath launches, the attention to detail on the packaging is stunning. The palette is large, but housed in a sturdy cardboard case as opposed to the usual plastic cases of the palettes that retail for £115. Opening it up, you can find a large mirror and a ribbon support to keep the palette open whilst you use it. 18 pans of shadow are inside, deeming the Celestial Divinity the absolute MTHRSHP MEGA palette. Glitters, shimmers, mattes and iridescents with 12 shades from existing palettes such as the limited edition Star Wars collections and six brand new shades. Now, as someone who doesn’t own any PMG shadows, all the colours are new to me.
You see from the swatches just how insane the quality is, and each colour swatching fully opaque with just a finger. I often find that finger and arm swatches are not a true reflection on how they perform on the eye, but I cannot believe just how intense each shade is with just one swipe. With the looks below, I used a my finger to apply to the lid and buffed out with a brush, but I have tried every colour with both tools and there isn’t a single shade that disappoints. I honestly cannot get over the quality of them. It’s really pushing me into splashing out on one of the other palettes. I just wish that PMG was more readily available within the UK and not solely limited to Selfridges and Net-a-Porter or having to purchase directly from PMG for it to be shipped from the USA. That being said, purchasing directly does have its bonuses when it comes to deals and offers.
I’m really impressed with the consistency of quality across all shades in the palette. Sometimes, especially with larger palettes, you will get a couple of shades that don’t perform as well but I have zero complaints! The texture is wonderful, buttery smooth with good adhesion, incredibly easy to blend without disturbing already placed colours and a long wear time.
With all the varying shades in Celestial Divinity, it doesn’t have a cohesive colour story and I think this is what drew me to it the most. Unlike palettes like the Urban Decay Naked, I don’t want a set colour story or theme, I want sheer childlike joy at the brights and different textures and finishes and as we all seem to own numerous palettes, not every new palette needs to be a standalone palette.
Would you be tempted by Celestial Divinity?
