NEW: Hourglass Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara

Oh Hourglass, how I do love you and your fabulous products that make me look effortlessly flawless. I have been on a journey with Hourglass, from finding my Holy Grail of primer to learning that one cannot live without the Ambient Lighting powders. Whilst Hourglass did already have a mascara in their range, I didn’t find it to be a stand out product so when I was sent the brand new Hourglass Unlocked mascara, I had high expectations. Were they met? Well, that would be telling…

The look of lash extensions in an instant. This mascara is the ultimate formula for when more is more: more definition, more lift and more length to transform lashes with impossibly real results. Using film-forming technology, it coats each lash in lightweight fibers that lock in place for a high-impact, fanned-out finish and smudge-proof wear. 

Big claims from Hourglass over the new Unlocked Instant Extensions mascara, so as you can imagine I was dying to give it a try. It is a tubing mascara so it’s definitely worth noting that if you are a contact lens wearer or have sensitive eyes, you will need to take care with this. As someone who does have sensitivity and wears lenses, I haven’t had any adverse effects from wearing the mascara but the first time I did try it, I did have some issues during a particularly intense hayfever attack. I would also suggest avoiding nap time whilst wearing the Hourglass Unlocked. That wasn’t a pretty sight upon waking up.

Initial impressions of Hourglass Unlocked were good. It looks very sleek and boujie in it’s black box that opens out to reveal the gold tube. I’m not 100% sure if the box that mine came in was just for the press mail out or if this will be the standard packaging however if it is, then it’s recyclable and makes it feel quite the treat. I’ve been wearing the mascara for a good week or so now and I have to admit that it has hot my expectations and exceeded them. Compared to Caution Mascara, it’s a whole new ball game and I am very impressed.

My natural lashes are reasonably long and have a nice curl to begin with but I do like to get length, volume and thickness from a mascara whilst enhancing the curl. It’s not often that I use an eyelash curler and when paying for a high end mascara, I would like all those boxes to be ticked. Well, Hourglass, you’ve nailed it and I’m not surprised that it’s gone viral with Brand Ambassadors like Rosie HW raving over how fabulous it is. I’m also not shocked that Space NK sold a tube every minute on it’s first day of sale. It’s still an exclusive to Space NK however sadly out of stock at the moment but I’ve had it on good authority that it won’t be long before it’s back in stock.

So, why has the Hourglass Unlocked Mascara gained such a cult status just 10 days after it’s launch?

The brush applicator is perfect for a start. It makes light work of pulling the product through your lashes to give the instant false lash look straight away. The tapered end helps to catch those smaller lashes that often get missed and it defines every single lash without clumping up. With the mascara being a tubing mascara, the fibres build up with ease and without giving that spider leg look that other fibre lash mascaras are know for, no names mentioned. As it is a fibre mascara, the innovative formula means that the product stays on your lashes and doesn’t migrate to your under eye leaving smudges and black marks throughout the day. It almost sets in place so lashes feel quite stiff and prominent rather than being lightweight and fluttery, giving that false lash effect. It’s fabulous.

When it comes to removing the mascara, it does state that the fibres can be removed with just warm water and whilst it does, to an extent, it also needs a little nudge. I have used several types of remover just to see if any product fares better but they all seem to be competition in getting Unlocked off. I don’t feel that it is is a bad thing, it’s obviously got staying power so I know I can rely on this for late nights and long weekends.
