Hourglass Veil Collection

Oh Hourglass, you have been treating us with your new launches lately. After finding out that the new Hourglass Unlocked mascara is one of the greatest things to grace my eyes, I didn’t think you could top it…but I was wrong. The Hourglass Veil collection has given me lots of joy over the last few weeks and I have been enjoying some old favourites such as the Veil Primer and powder as well as the brand new eye primer and setting spray. Hourglass is one of those brands that screams luxury and sophistication in my makeup bag and I find that most of the products that I own have stuck around for several years.

Since I first treated myself to the Hourglass Veil Primer back in 2014 during a Sephora splurge, I have used it ever since. Lightweight and silicone free, with a blue toned iridescence that cancels out any discoloration and leaves my skin with a completely flawless and soft focus glow, I have nothing else to say other than if you have not tried this primer then you are missing a trick. The satin soft finish gives a perfect and even base for applying foundation and stays put all day. It’s one of those products that when you start to apply it, you wonder just how you have gone so long without it. With the fully filtered and smoothed out images prevalent across social media, Veil Primer works in a way where you have your own personal filter to blur, smooth and perfect.

I have always favoured a loose powder over a pressed powder, but for convenience pressed powders have been a staple in my makeup bag. My go to from Hourglass has been the Hourglass Ambient Light pressed powder in Dim Light but since I started using the Hourglass Veil Loose powder, it’s been cast aside in favour for the ultra finely milled powder with light reflecting particles. Used alongside one of the most incredible powder brushes that has ever graced my face, I have been finding that the mess of loose powder is no more. The Hourglass Veil powder brush is dual ended, with the smaller tapered end designed for under eyes and the larger end for beautifully diffused powder application. A weighty handle and the softest of fibres, it’s a beautiful brush. I just need to remember to not put it in a brush pot so I don’t crush the brush end. The fibres of the brush are excellent in terms of picking up all the product whilst the design of the powder container means that the excess product sits in the recess without spilling everywhere making loose powder application a breeze.

New to the Veil range is the Hourglass Veil Eye Primer which promises a long wearing performance to elongate and enhance your eye looks. Formulation wise, it a very soft and silky and as it is silicone based, it does leave a flawless finish. It dispenses from the tube in a colour similar to MAC Paintpot in Soft Ochre yet blends out to a invisible wash of product. I’m not sure if I’m 100% sold on this yet because I am used to wearing primers and eye bases that are creamy and I can pat my shadows into them. When I have used the Hourglass Veil Eye Primer with bright shadows, I feel that can’t get the same control as when I use a cream base. When I am using a more subtle colour, then I feel a lot more confident in the primers ability. I think that as it is so smoothing and mattifying, it works better for the less is more approach, and you know that I am not really a less is more kinda gal when it comes to eye shadow looks! I’m still forming a solid opinion on this one at the moment but for the Hourglass ethos of enhancing your own beauty, then it’s perfect.

Saving the best til last, this is the one product that I really didn’t want to fall in love with but unfortunately, I have done. Why didn’t I want to fall in love with the new Hourglass Veil Setting Spray? Well, the price tag is the main issue. It’s £47 for a 120ml bottle which is outrageously expensive for a mist, especially when I don’t have a job right now. Thankfully, you don’t need a lot so the bottle should last for quite some time. What I love about this setting spray is how fine the mist is when it is dispensed from the spray pump. You get enough to cover your face with just one spray and as the mist is so fine it covers your face completely. It sets make up in place but also blurs, hydrates and leaves a dewy finish without looking greasy or oily. My skin looks radiant and fresh, and my complexion is healthy looking and glowy. As the spray is water resistant, it locks in my foundation and keeps it in place all day. I’m becoming a little bit obsessed with just how perfect my skin looks after use and for me, it’s worth every penny. It’s like I have been photoshopped without my face getting wet. I’m going to see how long the bottle lasts me but I can imagine it’s going to be quite some time.
