Oh Urban Decay, you are knocking it out of the park with your make up releases. This year has seen some amazing collaborations and launches, including the gorgeous Alice in Wonderland palette and lipsticks, as well as the huge 100 shade strong Vice lipstick line. The release of the Vice XXL Reloaded palette featuring original shades from the companys 20 year history has made me reminisce to my youth whilst the brand new Vice Vintage lipsticks are giving me serious 90s vibes. One of the newer releases has been the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation, and it’s been a game changer. So much so, that it’s taken over my trusty Estée Lauder Double Wear with it’s long lasting, hard wearing, waterproof formulation.
The Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation claims that it is the ‘ultimate foundation for a flawless looking complexion that won’t quit’. Quite a big statement that promises everything that I look for in a base, in particular a strong hold for all day wear. Having never tried an Urban Decay foundation before, I had high hopes for the All Nighter, especially after hearing great reviews of the All Nighter setting spray.
The packaging of the foundation is everything that I expected from Urban Decay. In the signature gun metal shade with shatteredcd, geometric cut out pieces, the bottle is sleek and on point as well as being practical. I can see the shade in the bottle, which is handy as I’m alternating between two colours, and I can also see how much I have left. The bottle has an air less pump which means every last drop of foundation can be used.
I’m using shades 5 and 6.5 at the moment, and although I feel that number 6 would be the ideal shade, both colours work quite well depending on what I need them for. 6.5 has a pink undertone so it does look quite dark on my skin, especially as it does oxidise over time. I prefer to wear this shade for work as it looks really good under the fluorescent aircraft lighting. Shade 5 is slightly too light for my liking but the yellow toned base works brilliantly with my skin tone. I prefer to use shade 5 for nights out as I can apply all my contouring and baking products over the top and give myself a sculpted look. The finish, although described as a matte, is more of a satin matte finish. It doesn’t look dry or cakey, and looks more like skin than having a foundation on. The foundation has a thick and creamy consistency and a tiny amount goes a long way. In fact, a pump of foundation is too much for my face. I use an oval brush to blend it out and it smoothes easily over my face.
Waterproof and long lasting it is. I need an oil based remover or micellar water to start to take it off and a double cleanse is necessary. It’s a bit of a nightmare for coming in from a heavy night out as I wouldn’t want to sleep in it, yet removing it is quite a task. From wearing Double Wear for so many years, it’s really refreshing to find a foundation that gives the same long lasting and matte finish but without me feeling like I’m wearing a mask of foundation. I love how it looks on my skin and I love how flawless and incredible it makes my skin. It’s a wonderful addition to my makeup wardrobe.
If you are in the market for a new full coverage foundation, I can’t big the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation enough. It’s just fabulous. I would recommend getting matched to your shade in store rather than choosing a shade online as the colour range is quite extensive. Have you tried the All Nighter? What do you think?
