I’m going to hold my hand up and be honest here. I have never really understood the point of primers. I’ve tried the silicone based primer such as Benefit’s Porefessional and Maybelline’s Baby Skin and I’ve loved the creamy formula of the MONU illuminating primer. I’ve got sucked up in the hype of other products offering flawless, smoothed out skin yet I’ve always never been wholly convinced. I forget to prime. I forget I own primers. I also go through stages when I remember and then I use it all the time, then forget again. Until now. Now, I have discovered the holy grail of holy grailness in the sleek and sophisticated form of Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer (insert ‘Praise the lord hands emoji here!).
A chance meeting after a 100 point Sephora reward, and a small tube of Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer found its way into my make up bag, and also into my heart. After using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders and the Hourglass Ambient Blushers, I am fully aware of just how amazing these are for your skin. Soft focused skin and blurred out lines, I look like I’m bathed in an ambient light even in the harshest of sunlight. Would the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer do all this too? The answer is yes, and more. One single pump is enough to cover your face in this white-violet iridescent liquid that illuminates your skin with a glow from within. A veil of velvet instantly wipes out any lines and gives that soft focus that is synonymous with the Hourglass brand. Add an oil free formula into the mix and this really is a wonder product.
I can’t explain in words how I look when I wear it but I will try. I feel lifted, and those cheeky fine lines have not disappeared, but have just blended out. Smooth without a hint of silicone, I’m not sure whether it is the iridescence of the liquid that has magically given the illusion of young skin or if it really is just magic. My skin feels velvety soft to the touch but has the most wonderful glow. I feel and look flawless and that is pre foundation. When foundation is applied, it sits on the skin like a dream. I don’t feel like I have any form of oil build up, especially on my T Zone, which is a common issue with other primers, even those that state theyare oil-free. My foundation lasts, and I rarely need to reapply powder when I’m wearing the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. It somehow keeps me glowy, yet mattified enough for my liking.
The Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer was only a 10ml sample size, however I loved it so much that I forked out the $52 for the full size. I have been using the primer on every day that I wear makeup and it’s a definite keeper. So much love! Hourglass is stocked in the UK at Space NK and the Mineral Veil Primer is £52.
