The winter months and working in an environment with no fresh air and re-circulated air conditioning has already started taking a toll on my skin. Even with a twice daily cleanse, tone and moisturise routine and twice weekly exfoliation, my skin is still feeling lack lustre and dried out. I needed something a bit more intense!
Microdermabrasion* is a technique to remove dead skin cells whilst stimulating the production of new cells. The method also removes oils and dirt that is left on the skin that would often lead to unsightly blemishes. Microdermabrasion is also effective in reducing fine lines, blemishes, scarring, age spots and stretch marks.
The diamond microdermabrasion uses a diamond tipped wand when exfoliating. It is used around the areas in which fine lines first appear, mainly the eyes and mouth and diamond wand is slightly more abrasive.
My treatment consisted of a pre cleanse and cleanse using Dermalogica products before a facial steamer was applied to open my pores. After ten minutes of being steamed, the microdermabrasion was started. It feels like a suction over your skin. The forehead, cheeks and chin were worked on first, then a smaller wand was used on my nose and top lip area. The sensation, although slightly unusual was very relaxed and not at all painful. I’m not too sure how long the microdermabrasion lasted for as I was so relaxed, but I would say roughly 10-15 minutes. After the microdermabrasion had been done, the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque was applied to my skin for ten minutes, whilst I lay back and let it take to work. The purpose of the masque is to calm and relieve stressed skin. It feels lovely and cool on your skin and I could have fallen asleep whilst it was applied.
I was really happy when Kate (the beauty therapist) mentioned that my skin must already be very hydrated as the masque stayed quite intact on the top of my skin and that she had seen clients who’s skin had just drank up the gel masque as they were so dehydrated.
After the gel masque was removed, the Dermalogica Barrier Repair was applied and I was told to leave it on until the following morning.
For the rest of the day my skin felt fresh and clean, to the point where I likened it to when you’ve eaten something minty and then breathed in, and that is how my skin felt whilst in the fresh air. My skin looked a lot more radiant on the day I had my treatment and I’m looking forward to seeing more results in the next few days.
Microdermabrasion isn’t a treatment that gives instant results so I will report back and let you know how my skin looks!
