Lots of people are struggling right now and that’s nothing to be ashamed about. It’s a difficult and unprecedented time right now. No one knows what is going to happen and there is no clear plan for how to get through this. In the meantime all we can do is look after ourselves and our space. So if you’re struggling during lockdown, here are 5 suggestions to help.

Declutter Your Home

This isn’t for everyone but if you’re going to spend a lot of time at home, you may as well enjoy your home! A declutter of your space can always make a huge difference in how you feel in it. Whether you need to bin things, recycle, donate, or simply give away to friends and family. It’s a little difficult now to drop off to charity stores but some places like animal shelters are still accepting donations, and I doubt any struggling friends or family will say no to picking up something from your doorstep! Start with an area you don’t use often, so that if halfway through you decide cluttering isn’t actually going to help you, it won’t get in your way in your usual spaces.

Try Online Therapy

Online therapy is an amazing resource where you can message, email, ring, or video call with a trained therapist and get the help that you need. They’re affordable and depending on your method of contact, available whenever you need them. For those of us who need a helping hand right now, they’re a great option and place to start. If you’re thinking about online therapy but not ready to take the leap, try reading the resources that they have on their website, like this good read

Edit Your Online Space

First of all, turn off the notification that tells you how long you’re spending on your phone a day. We don’t need that in our lives. Secondly, edit your online space today! Don’t wait any longer. If you follow accounts or pages that aren’t making you feel good, that might even be making you feel worse, then change that. Mute people who it would cause trouble with to unfollow, and unfollow the other accounts that you can. Completely change your online space to somewhere you want to be. Follow puppies and kittens! Don’t forget to try out TikTok too, I find myself on there for hours a day laughing at the content!

Practice Self Care

All of the things above are ways to practice self care, it doesn’t just mean bubble baths and facemasks. However, if bubble baths and facemasks are your way to making yourself feel better, then do it as much as you can! Get out all those beauty products you’ve been keeping for best and use them now. Wear perfume around the house. Do your hair and makeup to watch TV. Whatever you can do to help yourself feel better, you need to be doing a lot of it!

Try Something New

Perhaps you’ve tried all of the above and nothing is working? If so, I suggest trying something new. I’m currently studying but you could try learning a new language. Drawing, knitting, watching a new series, a movie-marathon! Do something that you don’t usually do. Maybe even plant some seeds if you have them! Although we shouldn’t be making unnecessary orders right now, we do need to be looking after ourselves and if that means one small thing added onto your essential order, then go for it!
