Being a blogger means that I’m on my phone pretty much all of the time. I check it whilst I’m on the way to work, at work, on the way homework, and during the evenings too. I can pretty much work off my phone which is really great and convenient, but at the same time comes with a lot of risks. The main risk being, if my phone is ever hacked, I would lose a lot! This could be anything from my notes and ideas on future posts and collaborations to my photos, videos, logins on password apps and so much more. My phone has everything on it and that’s why it’s so important to keep safe. There are a number of things you can do to stop hacking and secure your phone. Here are some that I have put into practice.

Password Protected

Forget 1 2 3 4, you need a really secure password, lock combination or now if your phone allows, activated Facial Identification to unlock your phone. You can also set this up on certain applications on your phone too which is a great idea to have. You’ll want to make sure your phone requires your password or facial identification every single time it is picked up and that it doesn’t delay for a few seconds as those could be crucial if your phone is taken and unlocked quickly.

Find My Phone

Find my iPhone is an amazing tracking system that can locate, lock and even erase the contents of your entire phone if it is ever stolen or lost. There are similar for other phone models and companies too. This is one of the most important things to have set up and ensured you have remote access to as if you lose a work phone, that could be very serious for your company! They’re easy to set up and free to use.

Be Careful

Most people who work online already know and are pretty good at this, but even we can be caught out at times. When out and about try not to connect to open Wifis that you don’t know or trust, use your own phones Internet or wait until your back home with the safety of your own broadband. Do not open links or download things you do not trust. Don’t open email attachments, don’t click on the links in emails, don’t trust anyone basically! Always check the emails or where the links are coming from and if you can, Google where that link is sending you, and get there yourself. For example, if it wants you to reset your password, Google the website and log into the account to reset your password yourself. This is the best way to stay safe. This is the same for downloading apps on your phone that isn’t from the trusted app store. Even then, check reviews.

Keeping safe online doesn’t have to be a worry. You don’t have to particularly go out of your way to prevent hacking, but putting a few simple tricks and tips into place can keep you safe for years to come! Always be sure to keep up to date with any updates too as these can also keep you safe.
