Taking Great Outfit Pictures at Home
Whether you’re a blogger or an influencer on social media, outfit pictures reign supreme as one of the most popular ways to get post engagement, so it is important that you are taking good photos. This can be difficult, though, when you can’t get out and about for whatever reason, and you are only taking photos at home. Don’t worry, though – you can definitely still take good photos! Here are my tips for taking great outfit pictures at home.
Find a space free from clutter
Tidying your home is one of the least fun activities there are, in my opinion. But when you want to create good content, you need to look at your home with an outsider’s eye and consider what they really need to see. Look at everything that will be in your photo and consider what it is adding to the piece, and what it is taking away. More often than not, it is best to remove clutter and keep it simple.
Use wall art as a backdrop
Many blog photos are all about the backgrounds. From urban backdrops, to luscious foliage, when you go outside to take your outfit photos there are all kinds of natural backdrops that you can use, but when you are at home you need to be a little bit more creative. I like to use wall art at home to create a dynamic and eye-catching backdrop that compliments my colour scheme and gives the viewer something else about the photo that makes them want to keep looking back. Good wall art is my secret weapon!
Use a mirror to boost lighting
If you haven’t got professional lighting set up in your home yet, you might be relying on the lighting that Mother Nature provides you. And this is fine – in fact, some argue there is no better lighting than natural light. One way to take this to another level, though, is to have a mirror opposite your light source to reflect the light, creating double the amount of lighting in your picture and a more even light source for your photograph.
Invest in good equipment
No matter how hard you try with basic equipment, you are always going to notice the different between an older iPhone snap and something that was taken with professional lighting and a DSLR. The good news is that many modern phones have cameras that are good enough that you don’t necessarily need to invest in a new camera, but good lighting is something that you are going to need to lay out money for initially as an investment for your blog. Subscribing to good editing software and learning how to edit photos is also going to be a great use of your money.
