Whether you plan on living in your home for a long time, or your current property is a stepping stone to a bigger, better one, upgrades probably on the cards for you either way.
There are many ways to add value to your property while making it into somewhere that you can enjoy spending so much of your life.
Your home should be somewhere that reflects your personality and it should be something that you can be proud of. However, looking at the big picture, you should also think about what will make your home a more attractive prospect for any future buyers.
Here are some great ways that you can have it both ways- to add value to your home and create a gorgeous living space that is comfortable, functional, and makes a statement about who you are.
Start From The Bottom
Your flooring is important. We often start with the walls when we think about our homes because they are what we will see first. Often the floor is an afterthought. But your floor will get walked on lots, so it needs to be practical. But you will want it to look good too.
A soft, deep pile carpet may provide a luxury feel to your home, but they are notoriously hard to look after. Keeping your carpet clean and looking great will mean very regular vacuuming, and shampooing too. You may need to leave your shoes at the door too if you want to keep it at its best. If you have cats or dogs, it will be even harder to keep clean.
A more practical solution would be to go with solid wood flooring. Not only does wooden flooring look great, but it is very easy to keep clean. There are no dangers of having to contend with red wine stains, and you can dress your floor up with rugs if you want to add to the look.
Wooden flooring looks simple and can either be used as part of a minimal style or added to if you want to create a different look
It Is What Goes On Your Walls That Counts The Most
White walls are a very good choice. They help reflect any natural light in the room and allow the room to look bigger. If you want to add character, think about creating a feature wall but painting or wallpapering one wall with a pattern or colour that really stands out.
Often, it is less about the colour that your wall is painted, but rather, what you put on your walls. Looking for some paintings or photos for your walls that make a real statement about you is important. Then, if and when you come to sell your property, you won’t have to do much in terms of making your home into more of a blank canvas.
Whether you want photos of family and friends, or artworks that reflect aspects of your tastes is up to you.
