5 ways refresh your home this summer
The warmer days have arrived and the sunshine is beaming. Now that the weather has improved, you might be thinking about bringing the sunshine indoors. This is the perfect time to think about revamping your home. Here are five ways you could give your house a facelift.
Fresh paint job
If you are a fan of burning candles or have an open fire in your house, there is a good chance that your paint work needs some attention. Open flames can cause soot to float around your room, leaving dark marks on every surface. If you don’t want to completely redecorate the room, you can still freshen it by washing the walls and repainting any white surface. If you have white gloss woodwork, it is possible to give it a good scrub to remove the soot. However, the ceilings would be the place to see the benefit from a lick of paint.
New flooring
Flooring can be one of the more expensive things to update but can give the best health benefits. Carpet, as lovely as it feels under your feet, can be packed with nasties. Mould, fugus, and bugs all make their homes in your carpet. One way to eliminate this is to switch out to a wooden floor. You could try different woods such as spotted gum to help create an elegant look that brightens the entire space. Not only is a wooden floor easier to keep clean, it is more durable than carpet too.
Updated decor
The trends are always changing and there is a good chance that you need to update your decor. What looked amazing a few years ago might not look the best now. Home decor is designed to be fluid so don’t feel guilty about needing to change things up. There is nothing wrong in boxing up some of those dated pieces and storing them somewhere, they might come back into style one day. Until then, keep them out of sight or give them a coat of paint to help put new life into them.
Declutter
If you are changing things up, it’s also a good time to clear things out. Life has a way of making us collect clutter and it creates unnecessary mess in our homes. As we have already said, there is no reason why you can’t keep these things boxed away if you have a space for storage. It’s better than filling up a landfill. Clearing away items can give the room a feeling of more space.
Change the furniture around
If you really like your stuff but still want to refresh the space, you can switch the room around. Turn the bed to face the other direction, switch the sofas around in the livingroom, move the pictures on the wall around to new places. Although these are still your things, seeing them in a new place can make them appear new to you. This is a brilliant way to completely change how you see your house without spending a penny!
