Four Ways to Make Your Home Pet Friendly
I love animals. Whether its a four-legged friend or someone who is a little bit more scaly, they are all welcome guests in my home. As a good friend to the animals, I want to make sure that my house is safe for animals to come and feel at home – as well as being safe from animals, too! Here are four things you can do to make your home more pet friendly – whether you’re getting a four-legged houseguest, or thinking of extending your own family.
Hide Your Wires
There are so many good reasons to hide your wires even without bringing animals into the equation, not least because it makes your home look much more tidy. But it simply isn’t safe to have wires loose in your house for a couple of reasons. Smaller animals like rodents, rabbits and even cats have been known to chew through wires, which can put them in danger of electrocution. And in the case of bigger chums, if they’re running around very quickly and they run past a plugged-in laptop, you could very well see it going flying in no time!
Change Up Your Flooring
It goes without saying that it is so much easier to keep your floor clean when you’re using laminate flooring instead of carpet, but this is particularly true when you’ve got some furry friends coming around who might be (hopefully) a bit more prone to having accidents than your human friends!
Say No to White Furniture
Anybody with children and animals can tell you that a white couch is an invitation for disaster, so if you’re thinking of bringing a new pal or two into your family any time soon, I’d consider replacing your furniture with something that isn’t going to show up as many stains as white furniture will. Another alternative is to exclude your pets from going into rooms with white bedding or furniture – but lets be honest, snuggling on the couch is half of what’s great about owning a pet!
Lots of Blankets
If you don’t want to banish your chum from your furniture, or you’re just having a houseguest for a few hours, a good selection of blankets is a great way to compromise. Choose blankets that you don’t mind being ruined because once they’ve been subject to a shedding animal, they’re never quite the same again! If you’re adopting or purchasing a new pet I would also recommend some extra blankets too, because no matter how many animal beds you buy and try to get your pets to sleep in, they’re always going to choose somewhere else to relax!
