Outdoor Dressing Tips for Winter Months
It’s always tempting to stay indoors when winter starts to roll in because the cold can make you feel like you are unable to enjoy yourself. But as long as you address the right way, you can still enjoy the parks and trails out there along with the winter activities that come with it. There’s no such thing as improper weather, just improper clothing to match it!
The good news is that you don’t have to spend a tonne on winter clothing just to stay warm. If you love to spend time outdoors, and you love to hike, you need to be able to pair warmer clothes with not so many layers so that you can still work up a sweat while you hike. A Moncler gilet can help you here, but so can making sure that you have the right thickness of tights under your trousers and wearing long Johns under your shorts. It’s always a good idea to prepare well for inclement weather when you’re outdoors, but before you do anything you need to know how to dress warm for cold weather. The biggest key that you need to stay warm when you are outside in winter is to use layering. And the order of the layers that you wear really does matter. Let’s take a look at all of the advice that you need to stay warm outside this winter.

- Start with that base. A base layer of clothing can Wick away the moisture from your body. We all sweat, even when it’s cold, and even when we are active. Too much moisture and your body temperature will lower too fast. The base layer that’s under your skin should be a wool, nylon or silk material and you should avoid any material that will soak up moisture such as cotton.
- Move on to insulation. Once you have your thermals sorted, insulation so that you can trap the body heat where it’s supposed to be. This is usually the bulkiest layer, which is why we mentioned the gilet earlier on. Fleece, wool and other insulated jackets can work here. The insulation layer that you choose will greatly depend on what it is that you are doing outside. You often need something breathable outdoors, but a puffy and insulated jacket or gilet may be what you need.
- Don’t forget the outer layer. This is the layer that protects you from the elements. Wind and waterproof are two things that are important to consider when you are shopping. The outer shell should be thin and durable because it can repel the rain and snow and it can also protect you from the harsh wind. You still need to have some airflow, and most jackets and gilets for outdoor wear have vents on them to help that to happen.
- The nitty gritty. Other essentials that you need to stay warm outside in the winter include things like socks and the right shoes. Add gloves for your hands, a hat for your head and a scarf around your neck, and you should be covered head to toe with the exception of your face. Of course, you can go for a balaclava look, but it may not be the best option if you are out in public.
- Other essential winter clothing: Socks, shoes, gloves, scarves, and hats. Covering your extremities in cold temperatures keeps you safe and warm – your feet, hands, and head are the first things that will start to feel cold.
