Wahaca Day of The Dead Feasting Menu
It feels like no time has passed since I was in Wahaca last year for their Day of The Dead five course menu so when I was invited to try this years feasting menu, I couldn’t say no. I adore Wahaca and can often be found in the Manchester branch with a burrito in one hand and a Corona in another. Wahaca is that perfect environment for catching up with friends with it’s vibrant atmosphere and great food. Celebrating the Day of The Dead is perfectly in keeping with this Mexican establishment and I’m starting to create my yearly tradition by heading to Wahaca each year.

The Feasting Menu at Wahaca is on until the 3rd November, giving you the opportunity to experience the fiesta of street food, good vibes and £5 Margaritas in 4 different flavours whilst celebrating those who are no longer with us. Starting with a cheeky Margarita, packed full of tequila, I went for the hibiscus flavour. Sharp and fruity the hibiscus balanced the tequila beautifully. Other flavours included the original blend, a sweeter passion fruit option and a tangy and tart tamarind flavour.
The Feasting Menu is made up of seven dishes which are brought to the table as they are cooked. We started with butternut squash tacos, packed with guacamole and crispy red cabbage topped with pumpkin seeds. I paired my taco with the fruity Wahaca spicy sauce for that ultimate kick but I do have to say that it was one of my favourite dishes from the menu. Next up, the slow cooked beef brisket tacos with pickled cucumber which were soft and fell apart in my mouth. Served as three tacos, I got the spare one as I couldn’t resist. And then, I took a bite of my Trealy Farm chorizo quesadilla and I was in cheesy meat heaven. I don’t think there is anything more comforting in life than quesadilla.
Out came the the Buttermilk chicken tacos served with crispy salad, pickled cabbage and sriracha mayo followed by the freshest prawn cocktail tostada that I’ve ever tasted. Crispy tostada with juicy plump prawns, I could have eaten several of these and been as happy as larry.
Starting to feel full, I was almost too full to eat the crispy cauliflower bites but I just about managed. I do prefer vegetable options over meat courses and I have quite a lot of love for cauli, especially when it’s been deep fried. Another dish that I have rated very highly was the pea and mint empanada. The fresh mint set off the pea puree inside the crispy pastry and the tangy feta was a perfect accompaniment.
My only criticism was when it came to dessert as I was desperate to try the brownie however due it’s popularity, they had none left. We settled for the churros with a melted chocolate sauce. Cinnamon sugar coated, they rounded off our feasting a treat.
The Wahaca Day of The Dead Feasting Menu is on until the 3rd November so if you are out this weekend, head over and get your hands on the £5 margaritas and all the food.
My meal was provided complimentary however all opinions are my own.
