The Far East Adventure Round Up

Back in May, I headed off on my Far East Adventure over to Bali, Indonesia. It was the first time that I was heading across to the Eastern side of the world, and the excitement levels were sky high. Working in the travel industry has given me some incredible options and one of those was to fly with a superior airline like Cathay Pacific. Being an ex hostie, I was totally immersed in their onboard service and I was quite simply amazed at how fast they could board an aircraft. The aircraft geek in me was even more excited at travelling on an A350 aircraft. It’s the little things in life that make me an absolute loser! On the 3rd May, I checked in at the Cathay desk, with my swanky Ted Baker travel document folder and my Samsonite full of fabulous clothes, ready for 10 days in the blazing hot sunshine. I was a little spoilt on this trip and had access to the Aspire lounge in Manchester T2, right after I shopped til I dropped in World Duty Free.

Heading into World Duty Free, I was welcomed by the team at Manchester including the lovely Sharon who made sure that I had everything that I needed. Never one to miss an opportunity, I shared my journey through World Duty Free and took over the WDF Instagram Stories for the day. There was a huge amount of newness in store and I was a little bit overwhelmed with what I was going to treat myself to. It was my sisters birthday coming up, so it was a perfect opportunity to treat her to the new Thierry Mugler Aura perfume. It was equally a perfect opportunity to treat myself to the new Jo Malone Tropical Cherimoya perfume with the limited edition neon orange and pink packaging.

I also had a wonderful pre flight makeover at Nars by the talented Jade, who made my skin look effortlessy glowy and fresh. I spotted the Travel Exclusive Nars The Jet Setter palette, and as a highlighter collector, it went straight into my basket. I topped up some empties with the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden which is perfect for coloured shadows and a new Benefit Precisely, My Brow in shade 3. I absolutely love that brow pencil and I’ve repurchased it several times now. I also picked up the brand new Benefit Gold Rush blusher which has become my number one blush of the moment.

The flight over to Bali was around 11 hours but being seated in an extra legroom seat made light work of it. I left Manchester at midday and landed in Hong Kong around 5:30am. Even though I’d had a few sociable wines with Mary and Mike who were sat next to me, and a good amount of sleep, I felt the jet lag of this flight pretty quickly. I was so grateful to have the Cathay business class lounge at Hong Kong where I could refresh myself with a hot shower, a glass of champagne and some dim sum for breakfast.

Meeting up with my sisters and our friends in Hong Kong before our final flight over to Bali was the most painful. I was so tired, and a bit ratty and I just wanted a Bloody Mary, a good film and to sleep for the next five hours. Thankfully, I got through it with ease but had to endure 3 hours of queuing to get through immigration. To say that I was deceased by the time I got to our villa was an understatement.

Backpack, Pretty Little Thing

For the next 10 days, we were staying at a beautiful villa in Sanur. Accessible Villa G at Ellora was simply stunning. A pool, a living air with all mod cons as well as beautiful private rooms within the grounds were absolute luxury. As we were all looking for rest and relaxation, we had a great time spending our days at the beach and our evenings going for a meal before coming back to the villa for drinks and card games.

We also headed over to Gili Trawangan for a night which included a fast boat across to the island. I was enthralled by the sheer size of Mt. Agung, especially after having to deal with the airport closures after the eruptions. Whilst I loved the beauty of the surrounding on Gili, I did find it to be quite young in clientele. There was a lot of youth orientated trips – bar crawls, booze cruise and such like, and although I used to rep these kind of events, it wasn’t what I wanted from my Far East adventure. I think that the next time I go back, I would love to try Gili Ayr instead.

Sanur is quite a quiet place compared to the lively Kuta, Ubud and of course Seminyak. We went into Seminyak for an evening and it was an absolute riot, and I do wish that we went earlier in the week and more often as we had such a good time in the gay bars watching the drag queens. You can take the girl out of Manchester…

I only scratched the surface of Bali and I want to head back again, for a longer duration and possibly alone to do some travelling around. I’ve fell head over heels in love with the place and I cannot wait to explore more.

If you have been to Bali, please send me your hotel recommendations for when I plan my next trip 🙂
