I was casually browsing through Allure magazine last Friday night when I landed on a page that featured a mascara that you applied straight on, rather than sideways. Is this the new revolution in application of mascara or is it just a big gimmick? Well, I had to order one and find out!
Avon Mega Effects Mascara is only available from Avon in the USA, however I found a seller on eBay in which they were £4.99 plus postage.
The packaging of the mascara reminded me of a larger lip gloss tube. Simply remove the red cap to find the flat thumb shaped handle. Using a rocking motion, unclick the applicator from the cap. This cleverly designed cap stops the mascara from drying out by locking the handle in the place. As you pull the applicator from the cap, you can see how the bristles on the brush are of varying lengths, with rounded ends and a criss cross design. The innovative design is to help capture all lashes and give them an even coat of mascara, and the curved comb matches the natural eye shape.
I was very dubious first of all about putting this near my eye and if it would be difficult to apply. With just one coat, I had thick, full lashes. It is quite tricky to get to grips with at first, and I found that I got a lot on my eyelid, but this is just down to applying the mascara a different way. One thing I did notice is that my hand did not obstruct my view in anyway as I was applying, I didn’t have that usual blind spot where my hand would cover my eye when using a mirror to apply.
So, for a product that I thought was a total gimmick, I would actually use this over my regular mascaras. Lets hope this new revolution quickly makes it over the Atlantic!
