Has anyone else noticed that their skin is playing up with this change in weather? Maybe it’s to do with the central heating being on as the dark nights get colder, and the nip in the air during the day. As I write, I’ve just glanced at the temperature and Manchester is showing as a positively balmy 9 degrees. There’s a small godsend that it isn’t raining, and I can choose my outfit du jour with ease. As I have been wearing more and more layers to protect against the elements, I have seen a huge difference from when my legs were bare to now – hidden away under 60 denier black opaque tights, as well as a face that just doesn’t seem to feel hydrated. Thankfully, I’m slowly being rescued by the wondrous Kiehls, who have made my life easier in just three products.
Many, many years ago, after a splurge in Selfridges, I had picked up a couple of bits from Kiehls and as a little treat, I was gifted with a sample size of the Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter. From first use, I was hooked. The scent, the formula, the feel of my skin afterwards. I do think that any body product with honey as an ingredient does help with keeping the skin soft a smooth. At £36 for a 226g tub, it’s quite expensive but considering I’ve been using the body butter frequently, I’ve hardly noticed a dent in it. A little really does go a long way and it’s a luxurious treat for the skin. Perfect for dry legs, I’ve been focusing on that area to keep skin smooth and hydrated whilst we move into the cooler seasons and it’s been quite beneficial for a deep hit of moisture to the skin. I also adore the scent of the cream, it’s fresh and light but smells rich and luxurious. It’s such a treat to use.
It’s taken me a long time to get the hype around the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream, and whilst everyone was raving about it, I just didn’t get it. Having used a light moisturiser daily before my make up application, I couldn’t bring myself to swap my Origins GinZing for anything else. When I ran out, I had to make a quick decision as to what I was to use each morning and I reached for Ultra Facial. After three days of use, it was clear. This is a miracle product. Water based, lightweight and easy to absorb into my skin, I cannot commend it enough. My face stays hydrated throughout the day and it leaves so no residue on the skin after application that it means that I can skip a primer if I wanted to because it holds my make up in place. Again, a little goes a long way so my 125ml tub is lasting such a long time. I keep a 50ml in my work toiletry bag, a 125ml tub in my bedroom and I’ve even got my mum to start using this wonder product. At £43.50 for 125ml, it’s more cost effective for a larger tub compared to previous moisturisers that I have been using. I’m sold. My 125ml tub (not pictured) is the limited edition Laura Mvula for MTV Staying Alive Foundation which donates £10 from every jar sold to the foundation to help support projects around the world to empower young women.
Intensity is the key when it comes to tackling hydration and dryness and I’ve found a new face mask that is really helping my current situation. From the Ultra Facial range, the Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque is a cooling and soothing gel that when applied to face, it instantly hits dry areas making them feel less tight. Like the Ultra Facial Cream, the hydrating masque is a water based gel so it’s incredibly light on the skin and doesn’t feel cloying or weighty. After cleansing, I like to apply a nice thick layer of the masque onto my skin and leave it on whilst I go to bed. By the time I’ve got in bed, my skin has drank up a great deal of the masque so only a thin layer remains, which works it’s magic overnight. By morning, my face feels soft, supple and smooth and I’m looking ten years younger.
I’m really getting into Kiehls, and as it’s made with the finest, naturally derived ingredients, it’s great for my skin and my piece of mind. I feel relaxed, refreshed and calm, and my stress levels seem a lot more reduced. After browsing for new skincare, I have a feeling that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate with extracts of Lavender will be next on my shopping list.
