How To Wear Accessories

Accessories are the easiest way to add some detail and interest to your outfits. Whether you want to experiment with a new style, or just to add a pop of something, getting your accessories right can elevate an outfit, and make you feel more put-together, more fashionable, or more fun. Here’s how to wear accessories in the right way.

Keep It Simple

Mixing large pieces, like chunky bangles, statement earrings, or glasses with large frames, can look fantastic, but if you stack on too many, it can make your style look confused. Choose a few pieces and let them shine. Don’t overpower them by putting on too many large pieces at once.

Elegant and Dainty Rings

On of the most beautiful and stylish trends in jewellery is stackable rings. Dainty and elegant rings can really show off your style and I like to combine several for a custom look without going over the top. My metal of choice is silver, and my birthstone of pink opal features a lot throughout my jewellery collection.

Daisy London are a favourite for their pieces that have meaning, style and quality, whether I wear them stacked or solo. Effortless, everyday style with a sustainable background, the sterling silver rings are 100% recycled and come beautifully presented in recyclable materials with zero plastic in sight.

Throwaway pieces are a thing of the past and I love choosing my new styles and pieces to add to my gorgeous and ever growing collection.

Be Careful With Matching Sets

Only use a full matching set if the pieces are small. A fully matched set of large pieces can look a bit much. For everyday wear, you don’t need huge earrings with a matching necklace and bracelet. Smaller pieces, whether you love classic pearls or goth jewellery pieces,  can be worn as a matching set, however, as this looks put-together, and not too old-fashioned.

Throw Out The Rules

Forget the rule that your handbag needs to match your shoes. Your mum might have taught you this rule, but it’s outdated. For a more modern style, throw this rule out. Instead, choose something that complements, not matches. A contrasting shoe and bag combination can look chic.

Embrace Your Glasses

If you wear glasses, view them as an accessory. Shop around to find frames that suit your face and your style. You’ll feel more confident and can use the glasses to add to an outfit instead of detracting from it. Whether you choose something discreet, or large statement frames, choose a style you like and you’ll love wearing them.

Add Contrast

If you’re wearing a plain outfit, you can let your accessories do the talking. A simple dress is a perfect backdrop for some dramatic accessories and will show off a beautiful necklace or a set of large earrings. If your outfit is more dramatic, keep your accessories simple to stop them from competing. If your dress is all drama, with a large print or vibrant colour, choose items like simple stud earrings, or a thin bracelet to let the dress shine.

Play With Colour

Accessories can be a great way to add more colour. Don’t automatically reach for black or neutral accessories. Reds and pinks look amazing against black or navy outfits, for example.

If you aren’t sure what colour accessories will go well with your outfit, try a metallic. This looks modern and will work with lots of different styles, without adding a colour that doesn’t work.

Theme Your Outfit

A simple outfit can feel modern, classic, or vintage just by changing up your accessories. For example, a fit and flare dress can be styled with a vintage handbag and a brooch, and will look like a vintage outfit, or can be dressed up with spike heels and a studded clutch, and suddenly feels very modern.

There are so many way that you inject some flare and style into your in wardrobe. I’ve realised that with the amount of clothes that I have, I need to invest in some beautiful statement pieces to make the most of my wardrobe and try and be as sustainable as possible. This includes being more considerate about what I am buying and where from.

I hope you found some of these tips handy. Now, I think it’s time to find a fabulous new handbag to add some much needed fabulosity to my wardrobe!
