Making Your Next Road Trip More Memorable
Road trips are an excellent way to have a holiday when you’re needing a break. Whether you decide to travel with friends or you travel with family, a road trip allows you to design something that makes sense for you. You don’t have to follow the itinerary of a holiday company, you get to make it yourself.
Sitting in a vehicle for days on end with the same people can be exhausting, of course, but so can any kind of vacation because it takes a lot of planning. Whether you choose to get DVLA number plates or you choose a personalized one, you choose to upgrade your car entirely and hire a new one or you choose to be driven by a driver, you need to make your road trip as memorable as possible.
- Always plan ahead. If you’re going on a road trip, you can’t just get on the road and say off we go.You have to plan ahead for where your stops will be. You need to know where the gas stations are. You need to know where you’ll be able to pick up food and if there are any particular places you want to see along the way to your destination. You need to plan those as well. Planning your stops and your route before your trip will ensure that everybody traveling with you is in agreement about what you’re going to be seeing and how often you’ll be stopping. This way you won’t have any arguments when people want to stop to go to the bathroom when you don’t have anywhere near you for the next 100 miles.
- Make sure that you do a detour. A road trip should have as many details as you can fit in. The whole point is that you are trying to travel and see new things while you’re on the road. - Make sure that your budget. You should have a day-to-day budget for incidentals, food and petrol, but you should also have a budget for souvenirs and fun things to do. Ideally, you’ll buy tickets to see certain attractions months in advance so that that doesn’t get eaten out of your spending money for your trip. If you’re traveling with friends, work out a daily expenditure budget, but don’t forget accommodation. It’s easier and cheaper if you’re camping everywhere you go with your own equipment, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be the most comfortable. Hotels are always a nice thing to spring for.
- Assign a role to everybody. Road trips can be tiring, so if you are the only driver, make sure that you have assigned somebody else the map reading duties. This will prevent one person from feeling overwhelmed. If you have more than one driver in the car, make sure that you are switching it out so that you are all sharing the load that comes with driving.
- Plan some road trip games. There are so many road trip games you may have played as a child that are appealing to both adults and kids. If you’re bringing kids with you on your trip, then you need to make sure that they are introduced to those games that you were introduced to when you were young. There are plenty of games, such as the story game, where somebody starts a story and then you all go round saying one word to continue the story, but you’re not allowed to say the word and or the word but. You can also play the movie game where somebody names an actor and the next person has to name a movie and then the next person after that has to name another actor from said movie. - Make your playlist in advance. Everybody in the car gets to have a say about which songs go onto a playlist. When you make a playlist in advance, you can fill the phone with a few different moods that get everybody excited for the trip. - Keep the kids as occupied as possible. If you are road tripping with your family then you need to make sure the kids don’t get bored and start messing around in the back seat. You want to be able to concentrate on the road and have fun on this trip, which requires you to ensure that those kids in the back are able to sit there and listen and learn. Make sure that you have handy wipes for cleaning up messy eating and keep a good supply of snacks as well as rubbish bins to make sure that there is no dirt all over your car. This will ensure that you and the kids are going to have a much better time of it and you can reduce your stress levels at the same time.
- Bring healthy snacks. It’s super easy to stop all of the stations on the way when you’re stopping for gas and buying chips and chocolate for everybody. You want to make sure that you aren’t crashing with your sugar by the afternoon on your trip, so whole grain crackers, popcorn, and dried fruit are really good options if you want to make sure that everybody has healthy snacks in the car. Whatever you pass, the town sticks up on more fruit and bottles of water to keep in the car with you. This will keep everybody energized and happy during the driving. Make sure that your bottles of water are there to stay hydrated, especially during hot weather.
- Stay as safe as possible on the road. When you pack the car ready for the trip. Don’t just worry about packing snacks and clothes. Make sure that you are choosing to pack a first aid kit, a spare tyre, some tools if you need them, and a spare battery. You should also make sure that you have spare chargers for phones and for tablets, and that you have a Survival kit in case you break down somewhere that’s nowhere near civilization. If you can, make sure that you have a radio or a phone that has a chargeable and removable battery, so not an iPhone, so that you can still call emergency services.
Your road trip is supposed to be a fun and exciting experience, and it can be if you are thinking ahead. Don’t allow your road trip to be something that you wish you could go back and relax from. It should be something that you should relax while you’re there. Plan to see some amazing sights and plan your route so that you are safe as you go. You will never regret it.
