Five Projects That Will Transform Your Home
I love a home makeover, but often when I think about what I want to change about my home I get fixated on little changes that I can make to change the vibe. It makes total sense – it’s less labour intensive to do something small like changing your curtains or painting a wall, and a hell of a lot cheaper in most cases. But I want to look at bigger ways that I can really invest in my home and make it a space that I am proud of. Here are 5 projects that will transform your home, and leave it looking unmistakably ‘you’.
Change Your Window Frames
I feel like whenever we move into a house, windows are one of those things that we just don’t really think about changing. But painting or replacing a dark wooden window frame, for example, can give your space a brand new lease of life, brightening your rooms and lifting your mood.
Change Up Your Flooring
Consistent flooring through the house is something that I think can really open up your space and tie in all of the individually themed rooms, providing consistency in your decoration style. I love the idea of engineered wood which, if done properly, gives you the look of solid wood flooring but only has to be done once every 25 – 30 years. Plus the smooth flooring can look much more clean and fresh than a carpeted room, and tends to be much easier to clean.
Home Extension
Okay, so this is a HUGE project – but I’ve lusted after a home extension in so long that I just had to include it on my list. Not only does adding an extension to your home give you a whole new space to work with, but it can also serve to free up some of your existing spaces so that they can be repurposed and you can fall in love with your home all over again. I love the idea of a nice bright dining room extension, giving me more room in my kitchen so that I can set up a workstation, or just dance around in my new-found space!
All New Doors
Just like windows, we don’t really think about how we can change doors when we move into a space, but its actually so simple to do. The first thing you can do is paint over your door – ensuring you research the correct method for doing this and select the right paint, as doors tend to be painted in a thick gloss that is quite hard to cover. But another way to change your door is to literally change them, swapping them for a totally different style that will give your home a fresh and exciting vibe.
Install a Fireplace
It might be the height of Summer, but that doesn’t stop me picturing cosy evenings huddled up with a hot chocolate and some twinkly lights – and in that fantasy, I am always in front of my very own fireplace. I love the idea of having a fireplace installed in my home; it feels like such a ‘grown up’ thing to do, its the perfect focal point, and so many memories can be made sitting in front of that fireplace.
If you had the power to transform anything in your home, what DIY project would you try first?
