Lockdown has been tough on us all, whether we’re having to work from home or being furloughed. Most people aren’t used to spending this much time inside their house and they don’t know what to do with themselves. It’s hard to tell yourself you don’t have to be productive right now, but you really don’t have to be. All you have to do is stay home, stay safe, and look after yourself. Which is easier said than does! Here are a few suggestions on how you can look after your mental health during the lockdown.

Keep in Contact

Even though somedays or some weeks you might not feel like it, I have found that a quick Facetime and video-call with my friends actually really helps boost my spirits and mood. I won’t feel like the call until I’m laughing and thinking how much I needed this 5 minutes into the call. Whether it’s a text, a call, or a video call, it’s so important to keep in contact. Not just for yourself, but those other people you are reaching out to might need that contact too!

Try Online Therapy

Maybe therapy is something you’ve always wanted to try? Maybe it’s something you’ve had in the past. Either way, online therapy is a great way to take care of your mental health and look after yourself during the lockdown. Get Fresh Air

Even for people who are used to being at home, it’s been a very long time and we all need some fresh air. Open up your windows or even better, get outside into the garden or communal space! Go for your walk, even if it’s not an hour, and breathe in some fresh air. Take a drink with you and you will immediately feel better for it. Whilst you’re stuck inside a lot, you might start to feel more tired than usual and this could be your Vitamin D levels! Try a spray or vitamin tablet to help boost those levels back up. It’s especially a good idea when you’re used to more than an hour in the daylight every day!

Try Local Fresh Deliveries

For some people it’s been quite difficult to get hold of fresh fruit and vegetables but hopefully things will get easier. As more and more companies sign up to delivery apps and post on Facebook, getting fresh fruit is easier than ever! Find a local fresh delivery service and get some good food into you, all whilst supporting local businesses too! It’s a win-win!
