No, I’m not saying that all music is bad. In fact this study of 1000 people showed that 24% are distracted by pop music, 20% are distracted by classical music, BUT 16% are distracted by no music at all. How interesting is that? I think it’s definitely down to the person. When you’re driving under bad conditions after a long day, most of the time we would stick music on louder and keep talking so the person stays alert. It would definitely depend on the person’s taste too, I don’t imagine myself being able to concentrate whilst heavy rock was on, but I could definitely sing along and drive perfectly to the top charts.

Food

Obviously food is extremely distracting at the wheel and you should never eat there. There’s no excuse not to pull over for 5 minutes, or simply just to not eat at the wheel at all. Only 32% of people said food would distract them at the wheel, but I imagine not all of the 1000 would even consider doing it. I certainly wouldn’t and I wouldn’t feel comfortable being in a car with anyone that thought that was fine to do either.

Makeup

I’m a beauty blogger and I’m pretty at makeup if I do say so myself. Even I wouldn’t attempt to do any makeup at the wheel whilst driving, especially not at traffic lights. However, 10% of this survey has! How scary is that, not only could they pike an eye out, they could cause a serious accident. Put the mascaras down and drive safely! According to the survey, even men have been beautifying themselves whilst ‘waiting in the car’ at 12% shaving! All of this is something you definitely need to avoid if you are car leasing.

Pets/Children

I wouldn’t be taking my cat on many road trips, but of course when he needs the vets, it can be a rather worrying drive. The constant meows that come from cats when they’re in cars is so upsetting, but it’s only for a brief while and you have to keep your eyes on the road. Thankfully only 5% don’t strap their pets in, and there’s really no excuse now with how many specially made car seats, carries, pens, and seat belt attachments there are for dogs. Children are even more distracting when it comes to vehicles, 31% of parents tell their children that driving is ‘quiet time’, which is rather clever!
