In this digital age that we live in, it is all too easy to bypass paper with the huge amount of content on line. Being a blogger and uploading creative content almost daily definitely contributes to the ease of quickly checking out a review, finding recommendations for beauty products and finding out what is hot right now. Regardless of the ease of information, I still find it comforting to sit down with a magazine and spend time relaxing, away from a computer screen. For as long as I can remember, I have had magazine subscriptions and certain magazines that I have always purchased each month. As I get older, my taste in magazines have changed and I prefer a good read of a topical issue rather than salacious celebrity gossip. I’ve renewed my magazine subscriptions for this coming year and alongside my old faithful Vogue magazine, I’ve added Red and Women’s Health from Magazine.co.uk, the UK’s leading magazine subscription service.
After a weekend at work, I have decided that my first day off will be spent relaxing. Curled up in the corner of my couch, with a cup of tea in my 16oz Starbucks mug and some classic viewing on the TV. Today, I’m watching TFI Friday and feeling thirteen years old. It’s amazing how certain songs, phrases and silliness can transport you back by 19 years. I’ve made chocolate brownies and I have my magazines with me, and I’m going to be reading them cover to cover.
Red Magazine has been a firm favourite of my Mums for several years and now it is one of mine. It covers a range of topics from fashion and beauty, home and travel, health and food with great interviews with iconic ladies such as Charlotte Tilbury and Natalie Imbruglia who are featured in the June edition. The front cover story has been given to the gorgeous Yasmin Le Bon, who back in 2001 appeared in Red magazine with her daughters Amber, Saffron and Tallulah. Fast forward fourteen years and Yasmin and her beautiful, grown up daughters talk family life.
My newest magazine love is in the form of Women’s Health and it all stemmed from my January Birchbox in association with Women’s Health. I bought the magazine as a prop for my photos and when I settled down to read it, I realised just how much I loved the articles, advice and tips and I’ve even found myself getting involved with the one woman gym exercises and adding a little health kick into my busy life. This month’s cover is of Gwyneth Paltrow, who I swear looks younger than what she did ten years ago.
Finally, my beloved Vogue magazine. I have hoarded Vogue over the last several years and I have even started purchasing US Vogue on a regular occassion. There is something about how they style outfits, bringing a chicness to the most unusual of items. Although the clothes and accessories are out of my budget, Vogue opens my mind to finding those key items in my price range. Focussing on British beauty, Stella Tennant features as this months cover and models this seasons military inspired looks.
I’ll be writing some featured posts for The Hub, which is Magazine.co.uk’s bloggers network. Taking inspiration from articles, products and features within my three subscriptions, I’ve already been inspirited to write. Keep checking back to The Hub to see my finished articles. In the meantime, why don’t you treat yourself to a magazine. It’s so nice to be able to flick through a magazine and fold over pages of things that have interested me. I’m all for an hour of traditional paper rather spending time on my laptop, aren’t you?
