After the fun and frolics that we had on day One of the Alpha LSG OMG Conference, I’m so glad that I took myself to bed early on the evening of the first night. I’m also very pleased that I managed to pack in several hours of sleep as in true cabin crew party form, there wouldn’t be much sleep occurring for the next 48 hours. Day Two was a really heavy going, jam packed day and in all the years of doing sales conferences and courses, I love the days that we call ‘supplier showcases’. Not only do we get to meet the brands and people behind them, but I get to explore the new products and learn more about them.
Day One started off with another motivational talk, this time by Duncan Goose, the founder of The One. I must first of all say that this was one of the most eye opening and heart breaking talks that I have ever had chance to witness. I don’t get upset easily by topical, political or world news so to find myself in floods of tears after Duncan had been speaking was well, emotional. Duncan set off in 1998 on a Triumph motorbike to travel across the world over a two year period. Surviving earthquakes, hurricanes, shootings and an attempted kidnap, he told his story with such passion that you couldn’t fail to be inspired and moved by what he was saying. His story led us to a moment in his life in which he saw a photograph in The Guardian taken by an Italian photographer of a little girl sat next to a padlocked water pump. I would love it if you could take ten minutes to watch the following video, but be warned, it broke my heart of stone. 100% profit of the sale of each bottle of The One water and juicy water goes towards water projects in Africa. I’m incredibly proud to be supporting this wonderful cause.
After sobbing my eyes out, a bit of light hearted entertainment was much needed and the team from the Blue Hat Group had just the thing. An hour of playing Beat the Clock. For a team building exercise, it really did get us working as one especially when working with crew members from other bases who I hadn’t met properly before. We had just under an hour to get the most points, which were ranked from silver to gold for each mini puzzle. Of course I was going for gold for each one. With mental, practical, challenges, activities and general knowledge questions, I had great fun working out anagrams, names of stars and universes and trying to remember certain road sign meanings. We didn’t win, but we had such a laugh and much needed light heartedness.
Supplier showcase came next and I really can’t express enough just how much I love these sessions. Split into six half hour sessions with up to six suppliers to meet within each session, I started to forget to take photos so I apologise for the lack of images. The first session started with a lesson in Starbucks and taste testing the Columbian roast and Italian roast coffees. My favourite is the Italian with a cheeky caramalised waffle to dip in. The second session was about the hard stuff. Spirits. A cocktail making masterclass with Britvic and Diageo spirits. I ‘learnt’ how to make traditional classics with the correct garnishes; a classic Gin and Tonic, a JD and Coke, a Moscow Mule and my favourite, a Bloody Mary. I then got chance to spend some time with Grace Fodor from Studio 10. The Studio 10 Visible Lift Face Definer Contour Palette is new on board for this Summer and I will be picking one up as soon as I can so I can review it. Next stop was to see Mavala and look at the travel exclusive Scientifique and Mava-Flex serum. I have this set so I will get a review up as soon as I can. I also won a gorgeous set of colours in New York, London and Miami. Quite apt really as I’m jetting off to NYC and Miami in this next month.
After lunch we met up with our drinks suppliers; The One, Rubicon, Vita Coca, Heartsease Farm and Pip. Some fantastic brands, some well known and some exclusive and I can’t wait to see how they go this summer. Next stop was Heinemann who supply our cosmetics and fragrances that include brands such as DKNY, Marc Jacobs, YSL, Clarins and Hugo Boss. There are some fabulous scents hitting the airline this Summer, such as the newest Marc Jacobs Daisy Sorbet and a new classic My Burberry. Jennifer, who led the session is the most wonderful human being and I warmed to her straight away. Just fabulous. The final session was with our snack suppliers; Tyrells, Nutella, Mini Fingers, Fish and Chips, Kabuto Noodles and our new ambient meals. I came away with several bags of Mini Fingers, and I give them an A* for being so good. Our busy day came to a close and left us with two and a half hours to get ourselves together and get glammed up for the main event, the Alpha LSG OMG Awards Ceremony.
I honestly can not get over just how amazing each and every one of my colleagues looked that evening. Everyone made such an effort in their black tie outfits and gowns with their venetian masks. I have no photos with my mask as the plastic was making my make up melt so it swiftly came off. I wore a coral maxi dress with embellished neckline by Calvin Klein and my Jimmy Choo Lottie shoes. I wore my hair in loose tumbling curls and added a simple clutch from Next and my Seksy by Sekonda watch.
The evening started with champagne on arrival to the atrium before we were led into a magical Venetian masquerade world. Sweetie tables, ladies on stilts and a room that was so fine I almost didn’t dare to enter for risk of spoiling it. Each table had individual settings and a bottle of Boss Jour for the ladies and Boss Night for the gents as a table favour. Wine was free flowing or you could choose from spirits or cocktails from the bar. I had a tomato, avocado and mozzarella salad to start, followed by chicken wrapped in Parma ham on a bed of cous cous for my main course. Dessert was a delicious tiramisu. In between courses we were treated to a hilarious performance by Faces of Disco, who once performed on Britains Got Talent. They changed famous faces to some of our team and management so you can imagine the laughs around the room and the post performance selfies whilst wearing these giant cardboard heads.
Finally, the awards ceremony came around and Alpha LSG gave prizes to the individuals and bases that really made an impact during Summer 2015. It was amazing to see members of my base win prizes for their commitment, incredible targets and passion and motivation to the Sky High sales culture that we have at our airline. I’m so proud of every one of the winners. Once all the prizes had been given out, it was time to hit the dancefloor and hit the bar and that my friends, is where I will leave it, as quite frankly it’s a tad hazy!
Thank you so much to my airline and Team Sky High, Alpha LSG and all involved for making the conference so perfect. I can’t wait til next year for the next. I think I may need a new pair of Jimmy Choos for the occassion, what do you think?!
