It’s time. Time that I gave myself a good talking to and embrace what my Momma gave me. No more hiding away under baggy outfits, trying to cover up my curves and swerves. There’s no point. They’re there and they aren’t going anywhere. It’s been such a long time since I felt confident enough to get back in front of the camera and take some images for Girl In The Mirror. This was once my favourite type of content that I loved to put out and I loved the overwhelming positivity that came from my readers. But, then my confidence took a downwards spiral and all of a sudden I just became, well, not me anymore. The worst thing about having a blip in life means that everything is second guessed. I can’t, I won’t, I shouldn’t. Well, enough is enough. I’m here, I’m me, I’m fabulous.
Putting on a little bit of extra chunk has annoyed me somewhat but I am not letting it get at me. My lifestyle has changed, my daily level of activity has changed and I’m eating my feelings. I knew this would happen but it’s not forever. Things are changing and I need to work with the tide instead of against. This is the ideal opportunity to see just how confident I am when it comes to showing the changes in myself, and to be honest, I’m feeling pretty incredible right now that I’ve grabbed the bull by the horns and taken these images. Its also the perfect opportunity to expand on my wardrobe and also try out the larger sizes from one of my favourite fast fashion brands, PrettyLittleThing.
PrettyLittleThing has been a staple of mine for several years. A whole holiday wardrobe needed? PrettyLittleThing. An airport outfit? PrettyLittleThing. The cutest lounge wear? You guessed it…PrettyLittleThing! I needed to update my wardrobe with some fabulous dresses and when I saw this emerald green beauty, I couldn’t not get it. The ribbed bodycon with button detail is not only reasonably priced but fits like a dream and is so comfy to wear. It hugs every curve and I think I love it. The long length sleeves are unusual for me but I love the style, and a midi length skirt is ticking my current fashion most wanted box. I have a huge respect for PLT for introducing the PLT+ range and just bringing forward the current styles but in larger sizes. For some retailers, the curve and plus size range means styles that aren’t meeting the criteria for current trends. I might be curvy, but I still love to try the new styles of the season.
A basic body con midi dress can be styled in so many ways. I’ve tried it with sneakers and a leather jacket for casual shopping chic, but I think my favourite outfit look has to be when it’s worn a little more dressed up with a pair of boots and a sleek coat. The PLT Plus Camel Waterfall Coat is so stylish. It sits beautifully when worn open, which is a huge plus for me. I really hate wearing coats fastened up unless we are in some big freeze and prefer to keep them hanging open. When closed, I do feel that the cut of the coat does make me feel slightly restricted but its sits nicely and frames my shape, leaving the lapels to form a nice open neckline.
It’s been such a long time since I have worn heels and one of my personal goals this year is to get my back stronger and get back into fabulous shoes. I’ve started 2019 off with a pair of black boots that not only are one of the most comfortable pair of shoes that I own but I feel that they are going to be worn a lot this year. Boots with dresses look so cute, and I for one an really looking forward to having my bare legs out on display again! The Behati ankle boots do have a 4 inch heel, making me around 6ft 2. I feel elevated but supported and I have no strain on my legs and back meaning that walking is a breeze. I’m so happy right now that I’m able to walk in heels.
It feels like it has been a long time since I’ve felt glamorous in clothes, and considering that my entire outfit has come in at under £80, it really doesn’t cost a lot to feel a million dollars. I’m off to treat myself to more clothes now because Girl In The Mirror is well and truly back!
