Hey, hey, hey! Welcome back to Lipstick Week! Have I given you any new ideas for your wishlists yet? I’d love to know what so leave me a comment below. I’m continuing this series with something special from YSL Beauty. I bought the YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats 208 during the Summer last year. It was released in August for the Yves Saint Laurent Cuirs Fétiches for Fall 2014. This was the first collection in which the Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks had a matte finish. The campaign was fronted by model of the moment Cara Delevigne and was inspired by leather and the chicness of the rock chick.
Although I don’t seem to rave about YSL lipsticks as much as I go on about Tom Ford, I do think they are at the top of the scale for excellent quality, beautiful packaging and a reasonable price for a high end lipstick. The outer cardboard packaging is the same across the all of the lipsticks; gold and embossed with the YSL logo. The Rouge Pur Coutures are housed in a gold oblong case that feels expensively heavy and again embossed with the logo. The colour shade is listed on the sticker on the bottom of the case, and my only minor gripe is that the shade name – Fuchsia Fétiche isn’t named on the lipstick but just on the box. This may be a blogger thing, but I like to know names to describe them.
The formula of the YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats would lead you to believe that is a full on matte lipstick however it’s slightly more special to me than a regular matte. Its full on opaque and creamy to apply with no dragging op pulling. The formula of the lipstick is unlike any other that I can compare it to. Its a vivid bright fuchsia pink that falls on the cooler side of the spectrum. Cool tones don’t usually suit my skin tone and can sometimes look a tad garish, but 208 works so well with my colouring. The matte formula has no shimmer yet it isn’t flat and has some depth to the colour. Most mattes have a tendency to look flat and one dimensional but this just looks and feels amazing. It doesn’t feel like a matte lipstick on the lips yet looks like one. YSL say this is a ‘stretch-leather’ texture that adapt to your lips and gives that super sleek finish and velvet smoothness. With a wear time of a whopping six hours with staining, I am very very impressed.
I have nothing but love for this little baby and although The Mats collection is fairly small, I’m looking forward to seeing some new colours appear on my dressing table in the not too distant future. The full range of YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats is available on the YSL website priced at £26.
