theBalm Cosmetics have been around for years, yet it’s only recently that I have started to dip my toe in the world of these multi-use products that have become highly covetable in the beauty world. theBalm haven’t been particularly easy to get hold of up until recently and I think that actually purchased my Nude’Tude Palette whilst in the States. I had bypassed the fuss of the Mary Lou Manizer for such a long time, as I really didn’t need another powder highlighter but I kept seeing it being mentioned, and kept liking Instagram pictures of these girls with beautifully highlighted cheeks. I got a sample of the sister product, Cindy-Lou Manizer in a Birchbox and I loved the coral pink version so using my Birchbox referral points, I took the plunge and ordered theBalm Mary Lou Manizer.
When my retro pin up lady covered compact arrived, it was love at first sight. theBalm describe May Lou Manizer as a honey hued luminiser. It’s errs slightly on the yellow side but is a beautiful champagne colour that when it sits on the skin, it diffuses the light for a subtle glow. The only way that I could get the camera to catch it’s beauty was for me to pack it on my hand just so the you could see it in its denser, unblended form.
The powder is so buttery soft and gentle that a steady light hand and a fan brush is all that’s needed to give gorgeous, glowy cheekbones. I have heard people say that the powder is so soft that they’ve had problems with it breaking whilst in their bag, therefore mine is staying firmly on my dressing table so it doesn’t get damaged. It works well as an inner corner eye colour and a light dusting down the nose and onto the cupids bow makes lips look fuller. There’s no chunky glitter or heaviness but a fine golden shimmer running through the powder. A heavy application will look a bit too metallic and shiny so avoid that robot look and build up slowly to the desired sheen.
I’m very tempted to get a full size Cindy Lou Manizer to join the collection, as I totally get the hype of Mary Lou. For a gorgeous glow and subtle shimmer, I’ll be reaching for theBalm Mary Lou Manizer every day. You can get yours from the Birchbox Shop for £15.
