Beauty Devices That Are Worth Every Penny

I don’t know about you, but there is nothing that I relish more than having a quiet night in with some much needed pampering. A good face mask, a deep conditioning and a satisfying defuzz session makes me feel brand new. It got me thinking about what makes a good pamper and then I realised that I have quite a few beauty devices that I rely on in my quest for feeling good and which also save time from me sitting in a salon when I can do those regular beauty treatments at home. I’ve put together my beauty devices, which are worth every penny and have been helping me in my pamper routines for quite some time.

Being a frequent flyer and international jet setter means that I want an easy life when it comes to defuzzing. It’s one of those girl jobs that doesn’t take too long, but you always remember you need to do it too late, and at the grand old age of 33, I still haven’t managed to be able to get a perfect shave without missing a bit. Over the last six months or so, I have been using a new device that at first scared me a little, but now has changed my life. The Panasonic ES-WH80 IPL is quite an expensive piece of kit and it’s priced £199 at Boots. Since starting my course of the IPL treatment, I rarely shave. The IPL works in a way that the intense light kills hair at the root, leaving legs, underarms and bikini lines free from fuzz. I have had to stop using it for the time being as I have a suntan as the light from the IPL can cause pigmentation. Even though I’ve been unable to use the IPL, my hairs have been growing back lighter in colour and are very sparce. For me, it has definitely been worth the money!

I love to whiten my teeth and I have been using teeth whitening products at home for a long time and I’ve also had salon teeth whitening done. Rather than pay out for salon whitening, I have discovered a handy little gadget that I have been using frequently, that has been whitening my teeth yet not causing any sensitivity or pain. The Luster Premium Light from Current Body* is just £49 and the pack contains the light, a activating whitening gel and a whitening solution. Sitting on the couch, or lying in bed and doing a few minutes worth of treatment throughout the day has really made a difference in the colour of my teeth. It isn’t as harsh as previous treatments and as a red wine and black coffee drinker, I have seen the stains lifted, leaving my teeth a beautiful white shade. The whitening solution is applied, before brushing each tooth with the activating gel and then the lamp is used for just two minutes. The guide also has quick treatment plans for maximum whitening.

Also from Current Body comes two of my most used beauty devices from Foreo. I first discovered Foreo around two years ago, when it was being sold in Selfridges. The Luna is a pulsating facial cleansing brush that uses sonic technology to pulsate across the skin, clearing away dead skin cells and making skin feel so clean and refreshed. It’s suitable for all skin types as it has different variations of touch points on the Luna, so sensitive skin can have a lighter pulsation whilst congested skin can have a deeper clean with the thicker touch points. It’s also waterproof so it can be used in the shower and as it is silicone, it works with most cleansers. I have the limited edition Magenta colour which is exclusive to Look Fantastic. As its so small, it’s also really handy to take away on trips, and I love the anti ageing mode on the rear of the Luna for helping to tighten my skin.

As I was so impressed with the Foreo brand, I have also invested in the Issa toothbrush. Using the same principle of pulsations for a deeper clean, the Issa toothbrush works like an electric toothbrush, except that it pulses. The silicone bristles take some getting used to at first but now, I don’t like brushing my teeth with a normal toothbrush. I find that my gums in particular don’t feel like they’re being damaged by the brushing and my teeth look and feel really clean after use.

It really makes a difference that I can do my nails at home and although at first, I didn’t quite have the hang of it, I can now get professional looking nails at home in less than 30 minutes. I use the Red Carpet Manicure Starter Set, although much of what came with the set has since been replaced by full sized versions and new colours. I have found that Ulta in the USA have a great range of RCM colours, as well as Sallys in the UK. I definitely prefer a deep, dark colour for this time of year, but I have some hot pinks for summer. The gel polish lasts for several weeks on my toes and a good three weeks on my fingers, and it takes me around an hour to do both hands and feet. The starter set is quite handy as its so small so I can take it away with me if I care to, but now I am a seasoned pro, I’m very tempted to upgrade to the larger LED lamp.

It really does make such a huge difference to my routines when I am using beauty devices and the ones I have shown you today are really worth investing in. Although they may not be necessary purchases, you’ll be surprised at just how quickly they do become a necessity. What’s your favourite beauty gadget? Let me know in the comments below.

  • I’ve always wanted to invest in an IPL system but I’ve been a little scared the results wouldn’t be there. It sounds fab though, lighter and sparser hair are two things I could definitely get used to! x

  • I’ve been eyeing up those sonic toothbrushes for a while now, I don’t know if I’m convinced yet. I love my electric toothbrush and can’t use a normal one now, it’s made such a huge difference to my teeth, they’ve never felt so clean and I have serious OCD about them since having braces. I just can’t seem to get my head around how it works, like how it gets between the teeth and gets all the bits out? Maybe I’ll have a chat with my dentist. I friggin love the idea of a home IPL kit, and that price compared to how much I probably spend on hair removal over a year probably isn’t too much dearer, especially if it has some longer term benefits. I hate hair removal with a passion! My ONLY concern is does it prematurely age the skin because of the intense light??

  • I found the Clarisonic far too harsh on my skin but would be interested in trying the Foreo because I think it would be gentler but I don’t know if I want to take an expensive risk again! xx

I need to try the teeth whitening one, it sounds brilliant! My current favourite gadget is my scholl battery operated foot exfoliator – not particularly high tech or glamorous, but it makes your feet really soft! x
