With fashion and beauty, I always fall back into a classic style. I’m very rarely seen without my ultra black winged eye liner and a bright lip. I’m not too bothered about latest trends, but I love wearing staple items that don’t date. I wouldn’t say I have a particular style as such but the word ‘classic’ always seems to crop up when talking about my style. I’ve tried to fall outside of this classic style and be more on trend, yet I find that how I dress and do my make up is one that I am most comfortable with. I’ve been getting hooked on Dita Von Teese lately, and aside from the burlesque sexiness that she oozes, I am in love with everything about her personal style. After receiving Beauty Mark by Dita Von Teese for Christmas, it has been like a style bible to me, and I am trying to come out of my comfort zone to add a touch more glamour to the way I dress and wear my make up.
Since I’ve gone darker, I have been embracing a red lip more often than not. It’s actually been quite sometime since I wore a pink lipstick, which is highly unusual for me. I’ve had a few reds on rotation lately; MACs Rihanna Viva Glam, Anastasia Beverly Hills Candy Apple and L’Oreal’s Blake’s Red. When it was announced the MAC was collaborating with Dita Von Teese on the new Von Teese lipstick, it was inevitable that it was going to be mine (I say this quite a lot, don’t I!) and Von Teese has now been added into my rotation. A bright tomato red, with orange undertones and a matte finish, it’s one of my most loved shades. In fact, I’ll be devastated when it runs out as it’s one of the red colours that I find suits my skin tone with its warm undertones. The usual black MAC case has been transformed into a glossy black tube with Dita’s signature in shiny red. Her signature has also been embossed into the bullet of the lipstick, however I have no started to see this wear down and it is slowly going. Like the newer Retro Matte formulas, it glides on with a creamy finish and isn’t particularly drying except when I wear it for work. It does leave a stain and it’s longevity can be increased with a touch of lip balm throughout the day. I get around six hours of wear before it starts to disappear. As with all MAC limited editions, it is no longer available so lets hope there’s a very similar colour released soon.
I had seen Beauty Mark by Dita Von Teese pop up in my recommendations on Amazon just before Christmas and after casually mentioning it to my Mum, I was delighted to see it as one of my Christmas presents. The book itself is glorious; glossy, and beautifully presented, just like Dita herself. It covers everything from skincare, hair care, beauty and make up and burlesque. It’s not a step by step guide to recreating her look, but offers an insight into the style and old school glamour that she is known for. It’s a delightful read and a definite must for anyone who has an interest in beauty. The photographs on each page are artistically and beautifully shot, and I wouldn’t expect anything less from a woman who has such a great ethos on personal style. With words of wisdom from Von Teese and glamourous muses, each page has been wonderfully written and I couldn’t put it down.
