When you have a huge amount of fragrances within your collection, you sometimes need a helping hand when it comes to selecting something new. Often, I find that I choose fragrance simply because of it’s popularity or hype, other times it’s due to a chance liaison where I have fallen in love with the notes that dance across my skin. Being a lover of a fruity floral or floral oriental fragrance, I feel like I have captured most on the market that would appeal to me, with the exception of some pretty high end expensive brands. Tom Ford, I’m looking at you because you know that I need ‘F*cking fabulous’ but I cannot justify £250 on a perfume. My signature scent comes from Tom Ford, and it’s the beautiful Velvet Orchid. Deep, seductive yet fresh with jasmine which happens to be my favourite floral scent. I want to try more fragrances that fall within the same floriental category but I am in need of an expert.
Luckily, there are experts at John Lewis who have helped me find my new fragrance by taking inspiration from my current signature scent. Using Tom Ford Velvet Orchid, John Lewis’s perfume expert Madeleine Harries has taken my favourite and have made a suggestion for what I think will be my new signature. Here’s what she had to say.
Your favourite fragrance, Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford, is a seductive floriental fragrance, a blend of notes sumptuous like Jasmine and sandalwood. From this my recommendation would be the latest feminine fragrance from Hermes, Twilly d’Hermes. The sandalwood note carries through as one of the three key notes in the fragrance, along with striking ginger and sensual tuberose. It was one of my favourite launches of last year and is great as a day or evening scent. The bottle is also very cute, adorned with a little bowler hat and hand-tied silk ribbon which you can use to accessorise an outfit.
Now, I’m not going to lie but I was really surprised to see an Hermes fragrance because they don’t seem to be spoken about very often. I couldn’t not have been more shocked and surprised when I first sprayed this on my skin. It’s simply to die for. A hint of warming ginger, sandalwood and tuberose, it is incredible. I have been wearing this daily and it’s that scent where people are asking what I am wearing. It’s unusual, yet modern. Sophisticated, vibrant, creamy and oh so beautiful. I think John Lewis have found my new signature.
