Can you believe it? I’ve bought some more liquid lipsticks. What a shocker, I know! Now, when I first saw that NYX were releasing the Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks, I was dying to try them out. A collection of twelve nude shades, that will suit each and every skintone, with the promise of a long lasting, kiss proof, smudge proof pout. I was all over that. Although the NYX Lip Lingerie have since been released in the UK, I picked mine up from Ulta Beauty and I really must admit that I struggled with a choice.
Each shade has been named after lingerie or something remiscent of bedtime. It’s a very girly, pretty collection and I chose Baby Doll 03, and Lace Detail 11. Now when I was looking at the shades in Ulta, they all looked pretty much the same. The shade chart that showed the colour on the lip, did not look like how it swatched on my hand so I chose blindly. As I have natural deep red lips, colours do look different on me, than on a shade chart, especially when it’s a nude or neutral lip. Out of the two, Baby Doll suits me the most whereas Lace Detail is just dreadful on my colouring. As with each lipstick post, I do a collage of how the lipstick looks and you can see just how odd Lace Detail looks on me.
My biggest issue with the NYX Lip Lingerie is that they are so dry and chalky. They go on creamy, they spread over the lips beautifully, and then they dry into a clay based consistency. I really did not like how they settled on the lips, and compared to my Anastasia Beverly Hills and Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks, these are in a totally different league. I’m actually really surprised at just how bad I thought these were, as I love the NYX Butter Glosses, and I have started using quite a few products now that we have an NYX counter in my local Boots and Selfridges.
It’s not all negative though. These liquid lipsticks don’t just stay on, they literally do not move. I had to use an oil based remover to get it off my lips, as a normal face wipe didn’t even touch the sides. So, for longevity, I’d say that these are the best I have ever encountered. I am going to have a play around and see if I can get the formula to work with me a little better. Although I always prep my lips before a liquid lipstick application, I am wondering whether a touch more balm would help before I applied them.
Going back to the colours and the shades that I chose, Baby Doll was my favourite of the two. Baby Doll is a nude pink but has slightly mauve undertones that I found to be quite flattering. I think that Baby Doll would also look lovely paired with Soar lip liner. Lace Detail is a nude pink beige which was very pale against my skin tone and looked almost peachy yellow to me. In the future, I will try this with Sub Culture lip liner.
So, although I am not over enamoured with the NYX Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks, I do think there is potential. For a deugstore/budget buy, they’re better than some others that I have tried but they don’t come close to Anastasia Beverly Hills in my eyes.
Have you tried the NYX Lip Lingeries? They’re available in Boots for £6.50 in twelve different shades.
