At the end of August, one of the most well known carnivals hits London. Of course I’m talking about Notting Hill Carnival, a celebration of London’s multicultural past and present. As a huge lover of the Caribbean, Notting Hill carnival has always been an event I would love to experience. The thought of eating jerk chicken whilst listening to the sound of steel drums and watching the carnival parade, filled with the brightest colours and extravagant costumes salsa-ing down Notting Hill. Well it just sets my heart alight.
In honour of the Notting Hill Carnival, I’ve picked my favourite perfumes that give me that carnival feel. Fun, sexy and seductive, these perfumes will instantly transport you to the sound of the steel drums, and make you feel like you could be there, shimmying and shaking your maracas in time to the rumba beat.
Jimmy Choo Exotic (2014 Edition)
This fresh new take on the classic perfume gives Jimmy Choo a tropical twist. With top notes of blackcurrant and grapefruit that rest into heart notes of orchid and passion flower with raspberry and patchouli at the base, this seductive perfume is perfect for carnival season.
Escada Rockin’ Rio
Escada have certainly come up trumps with this fruity cocktail. Inspired by the carnivals of Rio de Janeiro, top notes of tangerine, pineapple, papaya and coconut settle into cotton candy and peach leaving base notes of sandalwood and musk. A definite favourite.
Agent Provocateur Maitresse
A more discrete and subtle scent compare to the rest of the family of Agent Provocateur, but stunning none the less. Top notes include white lotus petals, violet leaves and ylang-ylang. Heart notes of osmanthus, rose and jasmine blend into base notes of iris, amber, patchouli and suede. A seductive fragrance that fills you with lust and desire.
Christian Dior Addict Eau Fraiche
A classic perfume from my collection, one that has stood the test of time and many repurchases throughout the years. A great day time scent that is fun and fresh, feminine and lively. Bergamot and grapefruit are in the top notes with heart notes of lotus, freesia and pomegranate. At the base sits musk and woodsy notes.
Anna Sui Fairy Dance Secret Wish
This fantasy fragrance is warm and seductive and celebrates joy, freedom and radiance. A perfect expression of Notting Hill Carnival. Sitting at the bse is sandalwood, vanilla and vetiver with heart notes of rose, peony and bamboo whilst the top notes of tangerine, mango and pink pepper combine to make this a truly unique scent.
The fragrances that I have chosen have evoked a carnival longing inside me. Although I won’t be able to attend the Notting Hill Carnival, I will be spritzing myself with these perfumes and I will be there in spirit.
