Apart from being a make up obsessive, I also have a teeny tiny perfume addiction. I’ve found my signature scent in Bella Bellissima’s White Leather, I have my work scents which are Cheryl’s Storm Flower and the 007 Woman, and I also have a bottle of Chanel No5, which I like to spray on when I’m going to bed. I’m guessing I’m alone with this little quirk. Browsing in Selfridges led me to a promotion display of the new Burberry campaign for MMy Burberry Eau De Toilette, a scent designed to evoke memories of the London rain. A very British brand has created a very British fragrance and I fell for it hook, line and sinker. The campaign, fronted by Cara Delevigne and Kate Moss, and captured by photographer Mario Testino is aimed at the British style of fragrance, and the women who will wear it.
The glass flacon is filled with honey-beige coloured perfume in the same shade as the iconic Burberry trench, whilst the neck is adorned with a ribbon made from the same fabric as the trench. The stopper has also been inspired by the trench with the mottled brown-beige colour mimicking the buttons.
Aside from the beauty of the flacon, the true beauty lies within the fragrance. Conjuring up memories of the urban garden of London, it’s vibrant as well as contemporary. I don’t think I own a fragrance like it. The earthiness of soil and the wetness of grass, it’s spicy and bright and a true fruity-floral composition which is one of my favourites. The top notes consist of sweet pea and bergamot leading into heart notes of geranium, freesia and quince. Base notes of patchouli, Damascus and Centifolia rose leave a heady, peppery vibrancy.
It’s an absolutely incredible fragrance, one that makes me feel like I’m skipping through the rain. Everything about it is just perfect.
My Burberry is available from Selfridges where a 50ml bottle is priced at £70
