Do you know when you smell a fragrance and it instantly wraps you up in that warm feeling of happy memories? This is exactly what happened when Miller Harris’ Tender came into my life. A burst of happiness where I was instantly reminded of my Mum and the fragrances that she wears that are so familiar to me. I think this is why I am so drawn to fragrances. They have a hold over me in such a way that I use fragrances to display emotion, or to be reminded of a certain time. It’s such a personal and intimate affair, and whilst fragrance is there to be shared, it feels so exclusive. Before Christmas I was introduced to the brand Miller Harris, and I am just on the last inch or two of my Miller and Harris L’art de Fumage. After being very impressed by not only the scent but the longevity of the fragrance that has enveloped my house, I have been extremely lucky to be able to try more from the brand.
One of my all time favourite authors is F. Scott Fitzgerald. He is so unique in his writing style, and his work, in my eyes is flawless. In homage to Fitzgerald, Miller Harris have developed two fragrances, Scherzo and Tender.
“…She walked on, between kaleidoscopic peonies massed in pink clouds, black and brown tulips and fragile mauve stemmed roses, transparent like sugar flowers in a confectioner’s window – until, as if the scherzo of colour could reach no further intensity, it broke off suddenly in mid-air.”
Tender is one half of the pair of the fragrances, and it is the scent that is filled with seduction and longing. Tender has the freshness of pink pepper and green hyacinth with the inky black tulip floral accords. Pink clouds of peonies just like in the book, with mauve stemmed roses to give an understated intensity. Warming frankincense bursts from the woods, soft leather and musk, whilst saffron lingers on the skin.
How can a fragrance create such an impact from just breathing in the initial headiness. Tender is my Mum. It was made for my Mum. My Mum is now the proud owner of Tender, naturally. It’s everything that reminds me of Mum encompassed in a delightfully sleek and sophisticated flacon with bursts of pink and purple reminiscent of the peonies and mauve roses.
A stunningly beautiful scent that has brought Fitzgerald’s words to life.
