Casually browsing does me more harm than good. I think that it might be fun to see what Superdrug has on offer and walk out £50 lighter and with a bulging carrier bag filled with cotton pads, face wipes and the latest budget beauty bits that are all on special offer. FYI, Superdrug do the best cotton pads I’ve ever used and the face wipes are not a beauty horror product as long as you properly cleanse after using them. Anyway, my recent discovery and one that I couldn’t leave behind was the super cute stars and stripes covered Maybelline goodies. From what I could see, there have been six different items covered in the 100 years edition packaging; The Colossal Mascara, two shades of pressed powder and three shades of lipstick. Coincidentaly, in my USA Haul post I mentioned that I would love to get my hands on the Maybelline Peach Poppy lipstick so it’s fate, plus it was 2 for £10.
I’ve used Maybelline The Colossal mascara before and I do have a limited edition turquoise coloured one hidden in a drawer somewhere. I’ve been using Benefit Roller Lash for the last few months and it has finally given up on me so I needed a replacement. With mascaras, I must admit that I prefer to stick to ones that are around the £10 mark as I do go through them quite quickly. I must say that The Colossal is a pretty good mascara by way of volume and lengthening and I’ve been pleasantly surprised as I haven’t used it in so long. I’ve also had to try and get back into the habit of using a brush rather than a comb applicator, so I keep getting mascara splodges on my eye lid!
For some reason, I have been choosing a pale pink/nude/peach lipstick instead of my usual bright pinks that I am known for wearing. I’m not sure why and I really need to snap out of it before I end up being a total nude lover and shunning those delicious fuchsias and magentas. Maybelline ColorSensational Rebel Blooms Peach Poppy looks to be a lot more fuller coverage in the bullet than it actually translates onto the skin. With my natural red lips, it gives a very pale, sheer wash of colour that would look so good with a heavy smoky eye or a natural glossy day time look. With it being so sheer and glossy, it wears for around 3-4 hours and it is slightly moisturising. It’s a light peach pink that looks more peach on my lips but pinker on the swatch on my hand. It did have a habit of clinging to dry patches on my lips as well so a good balm and buff is essential beforehand. Overall, it’s a lovely colour and I have worn it several times since its purchase.
I love a little bargain purchase especially when it includes a lipstick, and even more so when it includes the Maybelline lipsticks. They are some of the best quality lipsticks that I have tried. Congratulations on hitting 100 years, Maybelline!
