I’ve really started to get to the point in my life where I have had to make a conscious decision to take a step back from being sucked into MACs limited edition collections. It’s not quite working out the way I planned, but to be fair on myself and my purse, I have been relatively good this last twelve months. The stress that it causes it one of the things that I don’t miss the most, and the thought of missing out on coveted items from collections literally keeps me awake at night. If that’s not a true beauty addict, then I don’t know what is. I let myself have one item from the Nutcracker Sweet Christmas collection, which in true addict form has gone straight into the pile of make up that I can’t touch (too pretty, too limited, I will die if I hit pan on it kind of pile), and I told myself there was absolutely nothing from the MAC x Mariah Carey collection that I
wanted needed. Thanks to two very beautiful friends of mine, Hayleigh and Hannah, I ended up with the MAC x Mariah Carey Skinfinish My Mimi after a shopping spree in World Duty Free. As they were looking for items in the drawers of the MAC counter, they came across just three of the My Mimi skinfinish powders, and after taking one each for them, they thought of me. How bloody adorable is that? Friends for life there.
Probably one of the most insanely packaged collections, it’s everything that you think a Mariah Carey collection would be. Sparkling, silver, lustrous and totally over the top. I wish I didn’t tell myself I didn’t want any of it, as I do. I want it all. Stupid Anoushka and a stupid decision made. Thankfully, my Mariah Carey Skinfinish My Mimi will keep me going for a while and to be fair, it is one of the better products from the collection. Just look at how beautiful the embossed face is on the powder. Now, the powder itself is gold, and I’m not just talking a sheer gold, it’s like Oscar statue gold. The thought of using this on my face fills me with some fear as it’s not subtle at all. If I was going to use it, a big fat fluffy brush would be the only way that this warm gold shimmer could be diffused over the face without causing a severe metallic cheekbone. Even from the swatch, you can see just how intense it is. To give it its due, it does sheer out when brushed across the skin, but a light hand and the tiniest amount of product needs to be used.
With regards to the rest of the collection, which is sadly out of stock everywhere, there are just a handful of products that I wish I had bought. Out of the range of lipsticks, there aren’t any that I would have chosen as they all look a bit too pale for me, or too dark. There’s nothing in between that called out to me. On the other hand, I would have had each and every lip gloss, as well as both blushers, both eye shadow palettes and the shimmering loose dust. If I can get hold of the loose dust, I will be one very happy girl. I’m hoping that the demand has been that high for the MAC x Mariah Carey collection that they re-release some more, just as they did with the Cinderella collection. Please MAC!
