It was only a matter of time before MAC picked up The Rocky Horror Picture Show to base their latest collection on. For a film that is almost 40 years old, it has taken some time for the cult classic to be celebrated in all its glory and I for one, got exceptionally excited when I saw the promotional shots for the capsule collection. As we are still waiting for the Rocky Horror Show collection to be released in the UK, with a release date of Thursday 23rd October, I managed to get my hands on just one item whilst I was in the States. As lovely as the rest of the collection is, I was a bit underwhelmed by it and didn’t actually want anything other than the lipsticks. I’m waiting on getting Frank N Furter lipstick but in the meantime I have MAC Rocky Horror Show Lipstick in Oblivion.
MAC Rocky Horror Show Lipstick in Oblivion is described on the MAC Cosmetics USA website as a vivid blush red. I think it is a very pink toned red, that would suit any skintone. The formula is what you would expect from MAC, deeply pigmented and creamy with easy application and great longevity. It is an amplified creme finish and glides onto the lips with ease. A lip liner and lip brush would give a great definition to this beautiful red. I got around 4-5 hours of wear from MAC Rocky Horror Show Lipstick in Oblivion, and whilst the creamy finish disappeared, a lovely matte stain remained and stayed there for the duration.
The collection as a whole consists of a limited edition six colour palette, four lipsticks, setting powder, sculpt and shape powder, blush, glitter, pigments and nail varnish as well as repromotes of zoom fast black lash mascara, superslick eyeliner, chromographic eye pencil and lip liner and greasepaint stick. I wasn’t overly impressed with the collection however the colours are perfect for The Rocky Horror Show. The film didn’t use lots of colour in the make up, and it was all very smoky with red lips and added sparkle. Cheeks were sculpted and brows were high and arched. I think for a recreation of The Rocky Horror, then it works perfectly.
What items are you hoping to get from the collection? I can’t wait to get another lipstick, and maybe the glitter, or the sculpting powder…
