Shopping for presents, whether it be Christmas or otherwise, is quite a lengthy process for me. Finding the perfect gift takes time. It has to be right, and something that will be appreciated. It doesn’t need to be an occasion for me to buy a gift for someone. It could just be ‘just because’. A few weeks ago, a rather large box turned up at my house that was totally unexpected. Upon opening it, I nearly cried because inside was a gift that was not only so thoughtful, but so perfect for me, and it was ‘just because’. Just Because. Two words that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Just because everyone deserves a little unexpected treat every now again. Inside my surprise package was a beautiful Jo Malone Travel Set, decorated with a ribbon that said ‘just because’.
I adore Jo Malone and I have done for such a long time. I think I missed the boat when it first started to become popular and it took me quite sometime before I got into the layering of certain scents. I have two scents that I wear a lot; Pomegranate Noir and English Pear and Freesia. I either wear them as individual scents, or layer them up to create a signature scent style that although can be replicated, it works in a way with your own body chemistry to create an individual fragrance. The colognes soon led to candles, which led to body products before my bathroom was filled with bath time treats. An expensive hobby, sure, but who can put a price on smelling good?
Opening the luxe off cream signature Jo Malone box, I found the most beautiful note inside. A travel set that would come in so handy, for all my jet setting across the Atlantic. Luxury products like these from Jo Malone are definitely a treat so they’d only be used when I wanted to truly relax. Inside the box, a 100ml Wood Sage & Sea Salt Body and Hand Wash, a 30ml bottle of English Pear & Freesia Cologne and a 50ml tub of Blackberry & Bay Body Créme. Having a smaller bottle of English Pear & Freesia has been a god send. I’ve been using my 100ml bottle to transport around and I’m terrified of it getting smashed, and I’m sure it has been evaporating as I don’t seem to have as much left as I thought.
Wood Sage & Sea Salt has been on my wishlist for quite sometime yet I still haven’t got round to making a decision about how I want to layer in into my fragrances. The scent itself is a unisex scent; clean and fresh with quite indistinguishable notes when I try to work out what I can smell. To me, the sea salt is at the forefront of the notes, but it reminds me of clean laundry, comforting and homely. Slightly citrusy with a hint of musk with sharp, green sage. It works incredibly well with English Pear & Freesia however I think I’d like to try the cologne with a deeper scent.
Blackberry & Bay, to me, is a winter scent which I think is why I have been saving my Jo Malone travel set until now. The warming blend makes Blackberry & Bay one of the nicest scents in the Jo Malone range. I think it’s the addition of Vetiver that grips me, whilst the addition of grapefruit, cedar, blackberry and bay leaf makes it sharp yet fruity with a heavenly dry down.
Finally, English Pear & Freesia. The scent that initially drew me into the world of Jo Malone. Again, I feel that it’s more of a winter scent even though the fruity floral blend would conjure up memories of summer in most people. I wonder if it’s because I was bought it as a Christmas presents a few years ago and spent all winter wearing it? It’s a possibility. Juicy and ripe, English Pear and melon are the crisp and sweet top notes. The heart is made up from freesia and rose, giving that floral blend whilst base notes of musk, patchouli, amber and rhubarb mingle together to give a grown up sharpness. I find that English Pear & Freesia sparkles on my skin, like prosecco bubbles in fragrance form.
I feel like I need to add some full size products of Blackberry & Bay and Wood Sage & Sea Salt to my collection now I’ve been thinking about the warm, cosy scents. Next time I take a trip away, I’m definitely going to be taking my Jo Malone travel set with me for some ultimate pampering. Thank you so much Jo Malone for my amazing gift, just because.
