If I can’t head into Manchester without taking several lipsticks with me, then I would never be able to go 5000 miles away to Las Vegas with a small selection, would I? Being very careful in my choices, I actually thought about my selection rather than chucking several colours in a bag. I made sure I had some vibrant shades, a good nude or two, a pink and a multi use product that has come in really handy. Now, I did buy two more lipsticks whilst I was away, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks in Dolce and Catnip, because I have a collection going on and the more I add, the quicker I will complete it!
Back in February Bare Minerals launched the biggest collection of lip products, Gen Nude. From liquid lips, to lip liners, glosses and lipsticks, in every shade of nude you could possibly think of. I have myself a small collection of lip goodies from the collection and I took the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Lipstick in Crave on holiday. A warm medium pink with a shine finish that glides on like butter and holds on to lips. It’s almost like a balm texture but with a lot more staying power.
It was just as I was about to go away that the most coveted launch of the year was about to happen. The launch of Charlotte Tilbury’s iconic shade Pillow Talk was to be released into the Matte Revolution lipstick range. At the time, the shade Valentine was also released, but as it was very similar to Crave from Bare Minerals, I chose against it. Pillow Talk is the most perfect shade for my lips. It’s very much that perfect medium pinky nude, with warm tones and a semi matte finish that doesn’t feel drying on the lips. It is one of my favourites, and I’m so glad it’s in the permanent collection now.
If you noticed from my previous makeup bag post, you will see that there was a distinct item missing; a blusher. Of course, I didn’t go on holiday without a blusher! I took with me the Pixi by Petra Multi Balm in Baby Petal, the softest hint of a tint, that although very pale on my red lips, it’s a beautiful natural nude blush for my skin. It worked so perfectly with the foundation and primer choice and for a cream blusher/lipstick, it’s very easy to apply to the skin. For a lipstick, you would think that the large domed product would make application difficult, but actually, it was quite easy.
Heading into more coloured territory, I packed the MAC Versicolour Stain in Always & Forever, a warm orange cream. With a hybrid gloss stain formula, it gives lips that lustrous glassy finish that wears off to reveal a stained lip that lasts forever. It’s does feel weird on the lip, like a gummy balm like texture, but the overall finish is a glossy shine that hugs the lip without drying. It’s a great lip product for holidays due to the lightweight feel and hydrating formulation.
You can’t beat a red lip, and my red lip combo was from the one and only Marc Jacobs. Perfect for Valentines Day when I was there, the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Creme in Goddess and Marc Jacobs Enamoured Gloss in Hey You worked wonderfully together. The Marc Jacobs Goddess Lip Creme is one of my favourite reds that I own. Aside from the amazing quality and longevity of the formulation, the bold classic true medium red with exceptional pigmentation is the red lip of dreams. Although it does have a gorgeous semi matte finish, it dries into a velvety finish with an even wear.
Worn with Goddess or simply alone, the Marc Jacobs Enamoured Lip Lacquer in Hey You reminds me of a strawberry jelly. Pink toned red, with a very slight blue undertone and creme finish, it’s opaque in one swipe whilst the sponge applicator makes it really easy to apply. Unlike other glosses, it’s not particularly sticky, and longevity is average but it is a gloss and they never really stay on that well. Worn with Goddess, it gives that gorgeous jammy lip that’s not too much. Perfect for adding that shine to worn off lipstick.
The last lipstick I took with me was the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bend & Snap!, a deep matte raspberry shade. It applies like a gloss but dries down to a velvety matte finish that literally does not move. I find the applicator on this particular lipstick to be amazing for definition and it really does enhance the shape of my lips. It holds on for hours, and even after eating and drinking, it has barely moved. I think I actually need to try a few more of these shades, just to compare and see.
Come back on Friday to see my final post on my holiday makeup bag, and to see one of the best photos I’ve ever taken in my entire life. See you Friday!
